Dr. Abernathy has been our vet for 15+ years. I trust him with our dogs implicitly. He is caring, calming, sympathetic & knowledgeable. I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. he is by far, the BEST veterinarian we have ever had for our dogs. He has been by our side when we have to make the difficult decision to euthanize one of our beloved pets and he has been there when we have brought in a new rescue! We love him and the staff at SVC!

I have taken my dog Coco for the last nearly 4 years. Dr. McCall takes care of her. Dr. McCall takes good care of her. I have never took her to Dr. Abernathy but have seen him at the front desk and passed in the hallway and he always smiles and greets me. I don't usually do reviews but after reading some of these I felt I need to do this. Yes sometimes I do need to wait a while to see the Dr. but that is because she is attending someone else pet so I understand that. It does not hurt me to wait a little longer while someone else pet is taken care of. Dr. McCall is always patient and careing. Yes the front desk could be a little more friendly but it is the doctor that is careing for my pet not the front desk and as long as they are not down right rude It doesn't bother me as I am not there to be social I am there because my pet is sick or needs care. Of course it would be more pleasant if the front desk were friendlier but it is what it is and I can live with it. The most important thing to me is that Coco gets the care she needs when I take her there. When you take your pet there that is dying you are upset so I don't think at that time you are capable of good judgement of what the doctor does. We are not exposed to this kind of thing very often and I am sure the doctor is just as upset as I would be. Death is a terrible thing no matter if its a family pet, or our human family. I am very happy with Sunrise but people that aren't I just think there are many vets in the area and maybe you would be happier seeking treatment from one of them you may get a friendlier front desk but who knows how good the vets will be. Just saying.

So far the veterinary service at Sunrise has been good. My gripe is with the staff. Every time I call, they say "there are (#) of call(s) ahead of you, do you mind holding." When I was actually in the office, I saw them do this several times to callers and there were no other calls being handled. The first time I was there, I stood at the front desk, right in front of someone sitting in a chair and waited for any of the several staff members to acknowledge my arrival. I was ignored for five minutes until a new person showed up and asked if I had been helped. When I said no, I was asked to sign in and wait until someone called me up. Now really, couldn't the person sitting right in front of me had said, "Good morning" "How can I help you?" Something!!!! Finally, there were a number of staff sitting and standing around the front desk when it came time to check out and the Doctor had to intervene to get someone to help me. Considering I had just put my old dog to sleep, you think they could have been slightly attentive. Come on people. These are your customers. They are the reason you earn a wage. Show some attention. Even the people at the Quickie Mart say hello when I walk in.

I have no idea of the circumstances of Betsy Garcia, but I do know that wherever she went, it couldn't have been to Sunrise, with Dr. Abernathy! We have been going to Sunrise for almost 20 years. There have been an assortment of our dogs, from puppies to geriatric, who have been treated there. I've never had any problem from staff or doctors. Dr. Abernathy has come in on Easter morning at 6:30 AM for a problem; he was doing surgery until midnight one night recently. When I asked him why he was working so late, his response was: "There are lots of dogs and cats that need me." He is kind, gentle, and caring, not only about the animals, but about the humans as well. If there was a rating above 'excellent,' that's where I would place him, and everyone at Sunrise Veterinary Clinic.

talk about rude! i brought my dog to take care of a lump out. Not only did they not fix it the first time, but then rudly told me to leave after i asked about the bill! they tell you one thing and then charge you something else!! I will never go back or recommend anyone to this place!
