The staff was very friendly and effective, and seemed to generally know their stuff with regard to procedures for international travel. The price, however, was ludicrous. I was charged $167 to fill out an international health certificate form. At my previous vet the price quoted was $40. This made me resent the fact that the vet had only seen me for a couple of minutes before leaving the form with a staff member and moving on to a new patient.
Where are the good vets? I took my dog to the Animal Wellness Center because she had been vomiting for a few hours before I noticed a swelling on the side of her face. I thought she may have been bitten by a spider and needed an antidote. Dr. Moreau said she'd like to do a blood test, and I assumed that charge. She told me to return an hour later. During that time, Moreau had not only done a blood test but other unauthorized tests and x-rays as well. The results were "possibly false positive", and she wanted to schedule another appointment for my dog. But then, when I went to pay the bill and it was well over $500 for an hour's stay, I was stunned! Needless to say, I did not return, and my dog is just fine now. But what am I supposed to do in the event of the next emergency? ...I'll take her to ANYBODY ELSE and hope that he or she has more interest in my pet than the ransom he or she can get for my pet!
Horrible! I took my dog to this vet just to get a 3 yr. distemper parvo vaccine and got much more unauthorized! She proceeded to tell me that she's giving my dog a heart worm test when I proceeded to question she said it was part of the exam. I was then taken off guard when I went to pay and my bill was $150 instead of the $50 I was initially quoted. I then found out that she charged me for heart worm preventative, heart worm test, exam, and vaccine... I have to say I would have gotten my dog tested just wanted to wait a little while. I proceeded to explain that I was not going to pay that much and to take off the preventative because none of what they did was authorized by me. I was able to talk them down to $80 and very disappointed with the service I received. That night my dog was very sick! He had gotten vaccinated before and was never like this. He was shaking the whole evening, wouldn't eat, drink, or even take treats. I had to call the emergency vet to find out what I could do. It turned out he had a reaction to the things she had done but thankfully he was better by the morning. Scariest thing I've gone through with him. It doesn't end there, she proceeded to make an unauthorized appt. for my dog to get his teeth clean. When she called to tell me that she had made my appt. and accidently double booked me I didn't answer. I was then called 3-5 more times while at work. Harassing! She then proceeded to call my boyfriend who is my emergency contact to tell him about the appt. and see when we were going to reschedule. He was so caught off guard. I had mentioned that I have a cat and she sends me post cards to get a check up for my cat all the time like once a week. Ahhh! She is more of a sales person than a vet. I felt very pressured in her office she kept trying to get me to buy her organic dog treats and other such items. What a nightmare! We will never take any of our animals there again!
Horrible! I will be filing a complaint with the state veterinary board and encourage those of you who have been ripped off by Joan Moreau to lodge a complaint as well. Joan Moreau is the vet who intentionally put rat poison on a game trail because she assumed a coyote killed her cat. Just ridiculous, dont use animal wellness and Joan Moreau for any reason EVER
We had heard good things about this vet when we first moved to New Mexico. When our dog was attacked by another dog, we had an immediate need to see a veterinarian. We called to see if we could get an appointment and once they heard it was an emergency, we got right in. Dr. Moreau and her staff could not have been more responsive, attentive, and loving towards our dog. The follow up was terrific! We went in there as first-time customers, but are so impressed with the practice, that we can't imagine going to any other vet in Santa Fe. We rate The Animal Wellness Center 5 paws and an additional 5 purrs!
