My dog had been acting lethargic and like she was in pain; last year she had a malignant mast cell tumor removed from her leg, with our vet in Chicago warning us to keep an eye on her as the tumors would likely return. After I found several lumps and my dog had several accidents in the house, I called Banfield and made an appointment. They got me in that day and I had to bring my dog and three small children (and double stroller) to the clinic. After waiting an hour and 45 minutes with no explanation, I poked my head out and shouted over my bored, screaming children (I'd brought an hours' worth of snacks and entertainment) "When can we expect to see a nurse? Or anything?" They told me it would be another hour. I said that was not okay, that we'd have to come back. Suddenly we got the doctor in our 6x6 foot room. After arguing with me about the symptoms I'd observed (apparently dogs will TELL you when they're hurting, I apparently must have deleted that text) he glanced over her, squeezed two of the lumps and declared she had age-related cysts and suggested a $35 shampoo. Then he said that she was completely lethargic because she was, and I quote, "A little chubby." I asked him about the mast cell tumors and he informed me that the only option was exploratory surgery and x-rays. As my dog IS old, I told him that we didn't want her to go through a surgery if we can avoid it and he responded, "Well, if we sedate her for x-rays and teeth cleaning, what's surgery going to add? It's not a big deal." Surgery is not a big deal. No blood work, no further exam, he didn't even have them take her temperature. I left with a $20 bag of THREE pounds of food, $35 shampoo and a $45 exam bill. So cysts and she's chubby and I know nothing about cancer. Gave her the food, nothing changed, she got worse. So I called Park Animal Hospital and took her in yesterday. After listening to me, giving my dog a thorough examination and blood work, we learned she has cancer and a UTI. So, I'm hoping the magic shampoo will make my dogs' cancer go away. Thanks Banfield. It's taking everything I have to not come back and demand you refund my money. Take your dog here if you'd like them to die a slow and painful death and the hands of uncaring, incompetent imbeciles who have no business practicing medicine on rocks, let alone animals.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I've found the Dr.s here to be more focused on selling you tests than treating your pet. The vet's are on commission - so the more unnecessary tests they run the more they make. How is that ethical? We're talking about healthcare, not selling cars of jewelry. The vet also mis-diagnosed my pet which led to her being euthanized (after $1600 in tests and treatment of course). How they could possibly miss lymphoma when every lymphnode in her body was the size of an apple blows me away. I even pointed out that swollen lymph nodes when I brought her in. Please note that the Banfield Wellness Plan IS NOT INSURANCE and is a horrible value. It saves you next to nothing if your dog is actually sick. They never call it insurance, but they way it's marketed implies it's a type of insurance plan.
I use to work at this location and others around town. I quit eventually after witnessing abuse from a doctor at this particular location. On that day my co worker gave her notice upon witnessing this act. I tried to report the abuse to my director of petnurses, office manager, head doctor and corporate office. I was then told by my manager that if i had a problem with the doctor in question that i would have to bring it up with her. Obviously this is what i did not want to hear so i walked out that day. Banfield says they will "treat your pet like family", than why do they allow DOCTORS to abuse your pets? For those of you who have witnessed high estimates, Banfield has the approach of hiring doctors in at around 96K per year, after that they put them on production. This means that after the first year the doctors at Banfield only make a percent of what goods and services they sell. This means they will request all kinds of tests, meds and procedures to boost up your bill.
I have a tea cup chihuahua and she absolutely LOVES coming to this store and even to the hospital! She gets soo excited when she sees where we are! She get kind of nervous when she's getting shots, but the doctors are so gentle with her and she always does well in the end. Some of the other review complain about there being a line, but that is actually a good sign that pets and owners alike love that pet hospital. They treat my baby girl like they would their own pet. I HIGHLY recommend this hospital.
OMG WHERE do I begin. Petsmart is wonderful, Banfield should be put out of business. They kept me waiting hours and were RUDE. Then, they didn't answer my concerns about my dog. All this around Mother's Day. In my opinion, these people are stupid, rude, ineffective, and DON'T give a #@%& about animals. DON'T go here. I now use Tropicana Animal Hospital and they are professional, much less expensive, and available 24/7. Don't entrust the life of your pet with this company. Even after I complained I found no resolution. It's just not worth it. . . .
