West Charleston is far away for me, so sometimes I go to one of the two vets down the street from my house. My visit to other vets go like this. I wait a really long time. The doctor talks my ear off about a bunch of B.S. that I really don't care about. I hold my breath at check-out and usually get hit with a ridiculous bill for a vet visit and a handful of useless pills. Here's where West Charleston is different. Even with walk-ins, I've always been in and out of there relatively quick. The two vets I've seen for my dog have always been straight-forward and each time they have tried to push me into the most economical ways of treating my dog. One time I went there after my kids said my dog had swallowed a nail and the vet tried to talk me out of the x-rays and other unnecessary things since the dog was showing no symptoms of being in pain. I ended up doing the x-rays and, sure enough, there was no nail. And I appreciated that the vet tried to honestly save me time and dough. This seems to be the prevailing attitude among all of their vets as I've seen two different ones. So, though this place is a trek for me, I've learned to trust them as the best vet in town. I think they stand for everything a vet should be.

Took my dog Josiah there. The front desk was very nice and they made me feel welcome. My dog is a very fearful of new people but they were able to make him feel comfortable. Dr. Kempf and all the other drs are very knowledgeable and friendly, definitely recommend.

The only place I'll take my pets!! Dr. Kempf is not only caring and compassionate, but he takes the time to explain what is going on and reassure worried pet owners. The staff is always friendly and I can't say enough good things about WCAH. I appreciate everything they've done for me and my animals. If you live in the area, try them out, you won't regret it!

Let me just start by saying I have had animals all my life from dogs to cats, birds, guinea pigs, lizards, horses, etc. So I have had many different vets for these different animals. I have never had a vet treat my animal like this before. The only good thing about the facility was the short blonde nurse. I brought in my 12 lb 8 week old puppy for her first visit and first series of shots. She was a bit nervous at first, but when Dr. Gregory Jones came in I didn't feel comfortable and neither did my puppy. He took her on the exam table without any introduction to her or any reassurance that he wasn't going to hurt her. She was okay until he grabbed her by her throat, not her scruff, the throat. She panicked out of fear because grabbing the throat is a killing posture. He pulled her up into the air still holding her throat while she screamed frantically. She had pissed herself and was slipping on the table, so I moved to get ready to catch her so she didn't fall from about 5 feet to her back. He told me not to coddle her and that was the worst thing you could do. Coddling was not what I was trying to do. Mind you he pulled her into the air like this three times and the final one she was curled in a ball. He finally stopped when she sat down for the third time (she had sat every time after he pulled her into the air.) he said that was what he wanted. So every other time she sat it wasn't good enough?! He never released the pressure to tell her that sitting was the right answer. I'm so glad my older dog wasn't in today or she would have gone after him because the puppy is like her baby and the noises she made would set any mother off. I am never taking my animals to this 'animal hospital' again! The doctor is rude and abusive.

I have been bringing my 3 dogs here for 10 years. They have a very sweet and caring nursing staff. My dogs see Dr. Andressen he is wonderful. He is very smart. My dogs have had surgeries too with no problems at all. One of my dogs has developed heart failure so he gets his meds there. I would say if your in the area this is the Animal Hospital to come to.
