Do not go here. They are AT LEAST double the price of other vets and they will gouge you and play to your emotions to try to get you to keep treating pets that are beyond hope. Then after getting gouged on the treatment they will have no problem gouging you to euthanize the cat too. They charged us almost $1000 to treat a cat that was clearly on deaths doorstep. The next week they charged us $350 to euthanize. After the emotions settled from losing our cat I decided to actually shop around for some of the costs of the procedures they performed. "Unnecessary, unethical and overpriced" were 3 of the most popular adjectives that were mentioned during those phone calls. Just for informational purposes, when searching for a new vet to declaw our new cat I called Summer St for a quote . Every other vet I called was in the $200 range. At Summer St $450!! I don't believe in a higher power, but if by chance I am wrong I will see these people in hell.
My cats definitely get better medical care than I do. I've been using Summer Street Cat Clinic (the location on Summer Street) for five years, now, and have seen all the veterinarians who work there. In that time, the support staff has stayed very consistent, and it's safe to say at this point that they remember me and know my two cats very well. Just this week, my female cat had dental surgery here, that actually cost below their estimate, and she had returned to almost her old self by the next morning. One of my cats does need to be taken in the back for his shots and deworming pills, because he gets very worked up at the vet and will bite/scratch/run away. Though I was mildly alarmed the first time this happened (five years ago), the vet explained to me that this is because of the biting, scratching, etc. Anyway, I would recommend (and do) Summer Street to people who ask me. They have been INCREDIBLY helpful over the years, and have taken excellent care of my cats.
We have been going to Summer Street for about two years now and they have provided excellent care for our two cats. Dr. Levine and Dr. Otterson are attentive, intelligent, patient and kind and always make time to speak with us between visits. I appreciate the time they devote to educating pet owners in addition to treating their feline patients. Their vet techs & reception staff are excellent as well.
First of all, be warned that you will not be able to be present during medical procedures with your animal. I am not talking about operations or complex procedures, but simple things like injections or micro-chipping. Some people may not have a problem with this, but there is no warning that this is the policy (an uncommon one in my experience) in this clinic. I found the knowledge of the staff to be inconsistent, and that they were generally unhelpful. When it was obvious I was on my own to find out about a bit of complex paperwork, I decided it was wise to cancel my future appointment with them. I was cheerfully informed by the tech that that was fine with her. I am glad she was happy to lose my business, because I will not use them again. My cat was given redundant vaccinations (confirmed later when I looked over his shot record). He was sick with loose stools for a few days after his one and only visit to this vet. Now, this could have been a reaction to his scheduled vaccination. It could have been a reaction to the redundant one. It could have just been stress, or it could have been something picked up from the vet or the facility itself. I cannot say for certain if it was their fault or not, but their policies and attitude do not reassure me. Pricing was a little high on some things, and a bit lower on others. When I was present, the tech and the vet handled my cat kindly and seemed professional. However, a lot of time could have been saved (as well as money) if they had admitted they were unfamiliar with the process I was asking them to help me with. I was clear of my cat's needs from the beginning. I finally found a vet who has done the paperwork I needed to get done in this case, and it appears that I will need to start the whole process over because Summer Street Cat Clinic messed it up. These mistakes could have eventually lead to thousands of dollars in expenses and a lengthy quarantine separation from my cat. If they had just been up front with me, I wouldn't have held that against them and I would have looked elsewhere. Of course, I wouldn't have wasted money on their services that will need to be repeated (and paid for again) by a vet that actually knows what they are doing.
