This vet is rude, expensive, and incompetent. Avoid this clinic at all costs! I had an extremely negative experience at Henrietta Animal Hospital. I adopted a sick cat. As a first time cat owner this was an extremely stressful experience. My stress was increased exponentially by the fact that Dr. Brownstein had a very unfriendly bedside manner and was unclear in her instructions. I received medicine that was mislabeled and appeared to be expired. She also prescribed an extremely large dosage of antibiotics. When I left and tried a new clinic, the veterinarians there were shocked to see what a high dosage had been prescribed saying that amount was unheard of for a cat. The high dosage was possibly a contributor to my cat getting pneumonia. Trying to get any paperwork from this clinic after switching was hell. You would think that the money I spent at my two visits there would cover the few minutes it would take for them to send a fax. My new vet called several times and was ignored. Henrietta Animal Hospital only sent the paperwork after I got in touch with the better business bureau.
I will start this review by stating that this hospital is very small, with a single proprietor/vet and several staff assistants. We've had to wait a few times to be seen even when arriving ahead of schedule, so bear that in mind when planning your visit. As soon as we moved to the area, we needed to find a new vet for our 5-year-old Peke. This hospital was nearby and seemed professional and courteous from what I saw briefly online, so we gave it a shot. I will say that the majority of the service and treatment we've gotten has been stellar, and that my dog (though it took a few visits' time and money) finally received proper diagnosis for his food allergy, so we're very happy. They've also been flexible with rescheduling us at short notice, which is very helpful, and with accommodating requests to fill prescriptions. The one reason I'm holding back a star is price. I agree with the reviewer who said it was and is an expensive hospital for diagnostic visits ($50 to walk in the door). However, some of the services are not badly priced (we recently had a S-Paw day, which cost $45 for a bath/grooming, nail trim, and play time; microchipping was $60, where I've seen places charge $80, etc.). With what we've had done and the services we need, I consider it fair.
The veterinarian here is well-educated and does a good job, but at a minimum of double the cost of any other animal hospital, with none of the customer service or integrity. Every time we went, she was very sweet and played with our puppy, but would completely avoid eye contact with us when discussing procedures and payments. Multiple times, she would hand us an unnecessary pill or treatment (which sounded and appeared to be complementary) and then we would see a $20 or higher charge on the bill at the end for x item. Additionally, it costs $50-60 just to walk in for three minutes and have a small follow-up or vaccine injected - as the flat appointment charge. When we went to cancel with the vet's office, we were charged a $51 cancellation fee. This office seems to be in it for the money more than anything else. Do not bring your pets here. Save your money and look elsewhere. I stress here to always ask ahead of time what the typical appointment fee is, and ask thorough questions before even booking an appointment - with any vet.
My family and I have been going to Henrietta Animal Hospital and Dr. Brownstein for almost 20 years for every dog we've had, including my own now. She and her staff provide the most effective, safe, comprehensive, and compassionate care that a pet owner could ask for. I could not dream of a more trustworthy or caring veterinarian in a million years.
This vet is great... if you have a Corgi or Greyhound. Otherwise- beware. This vet plays favorites, and I've seen cats and other breeds treated poorly by the assisting staff. Boarding was a nightmare. Highly unprofessional atmosphere. Will never return.
