My boyfriend and I had a goal to visit every animal shelter in the city on one very rainy Saturday morning. It went from this is fun to I could not stop crying. It's really sad to see so many animals in need of a home. Anyone looking to do what I did start in the 100's and go down because the other way around it goes all downhill as far as the condition of the animals. Given the local going downhill suddenly seems like an oxymoron. When I got to Bidawee I really got the sense of them wanting to place an animal in a good home. I say this because Animal Haven gave me the impression that, I'm in a cool neighborhood, I'm rude because of it, by the way so many other people put in adoption papers for this dog, waste your time filling out our paperwork and by the way we update our website once a year so the dogs you see on our website may or may not even exist! Let me not sound completely bitter about Animal Haven because they did approve us for a dog. Because they were rude we continued looking. Needless to say I adopted a Chihuahua Mix from Bidawee on December 29th and I cannot wait to adopt another dog from them hopefully towards the end of 2014. The adoption process was seamless and I really felt at home. They do check your references (you may want to let people know you are putting them down as a reference ASAP because they call right away), everyone in your household must be there when you attempt to adopt (don't go there if little Suzie has swimming practice because even little Suzie must be present), they give you a free vet visit and they have a one on one dog trainer if you feel you need a little help. Oh, they also update their website right away :) which helps if you are online looking for a specific dog. It's very far east. I mean right off of the FDR to be exact. I liked the atmosphere so much that I am continuing to take my dog there for his vet visits even though I live on the Upper West Side.
What an amazing animal shelter and hospital in the heart of Manhattan. Bideawee is a no kill shelter (YAY!) that takes in rescues from other area shelters. They have a surprising amount of space including a learning center where people and groups can interact with the animals and where the animals can get some exercise. They have a great variety of dogs and cats for everyone from puppies and kittens to older, calmer critters. The staff is also super friendly and loves what they do and even sometimes foster the critters. There is also a hospital on premises and they have a good relationship with nearby specialists when needed. When adding a member to the family, support an organization that is doing great things, not some puppy farm and head to Bideawee.
Bideawee provided my family and I with the absolute best adoption experience we have ever had and I would what a fabulous organization they are. The facility is the cleanest I have ever seen, they are truly dedicated to the animals in their care and they really work with making the best match.
Bideawee is an animal hospital and no-kill shelter in midtown. We went to volunteer recently and enjoyed ourselves. Facilities are clean and animals clearly live a good life here. Staff and friendly and animal lovers to their core. Should you find yourself with some time and a need for a furry snuggle, head to Bideawee for a few hours. They're always looking for a helping hand.
With designated play rooms and a staff that brings in their own pets to socialize the animals waiting for adoption, you can feel the dedication to making sure the animals are healthy and happy. The staff is energetic and ready to give a tour of the facilities at the drop of a hat. They also rescue animals from areas outside of New York as well to do their part finding homes for stray animals.
