My family has been using South Towne since we moved to Rochester in 1963. Although the personnel have changed over the years, the standard of care has remained high. I credit Dr. Gshrey and the staff for adding at least two more quality years to the life of my beloved Dalmatian (congestive heart failure, nerve degeneration, and blindness), and when the end came the service we received was caring and compassionate. Last year we adopted a mixed breed puppy with "special needs" and some medical issues. The outstanding care has helped us (and her) overcome those challenges. Dr. G is careful to explain the medical issues, and to offer alternatives. Of course, in the end, it is up to the pet-owner to make the decision based on the information and what they can afford. I would (and have) highly recommend South Towne Veterinary Hospital.

I've taken my dogs to South Towne Vet for several years. The both doctors are very nice & caring people. At the same time, when it comes to making medical decisions, it was always "up to me" when I asked for a professional opinion. Also, in one occasion, when my dog needed a surgery, I was given information that was inconsistent with what I found from my research (and confirmed later with a vet elsewhere...who had many experiences with the procedure and was lot more knowledgeable). I didn't think of their price too high while I used their service but found out they are much pricier. The surgery was twice as much as what the other vet (who was highly recommended by several people for the services and skills...so it wasn't just being cheap) offered & completed; ultrasound is more expensive than a local emergency vet hospital. So, like I said before, they are very nice people...but I can't quite recommend the place.

I have been taking my dog to south Towne for many years. The care has always been great and my dog is actually excited to go there. Go figure, a dog that loves to go to the vets. As he has gotten older and has had medical issues from an ACL to an auto immune disease. The staff has been great in dealing with every aspect of treatments. This is from the medical side, scheduling and payment options. Dr G. is without a doubt a caring vet with an extreme amount of patience. I ask ALOT of questions and he takes the time to listen to them and explaim them, he also takes the extra time to make sure I understand his explantion. I never go away feeling like he through a bunch of complex info at me and I did'nt understand or was to intimadated to ask for clarification. You can also tell he really loves animal. I think the other person who complained about his voice and said he was not comforting was maybe misunderstand or sensitive to the way information was presented. He has gone the extra mile to reassure me of my dogs health and ability to get better when I was really feeling unsure. I feel extremely confident leaving questions or concerns for him when he is not available. No matter how busy or overloaded with emergenicies he gets he always finds a way to get back to me in short time. Sometimes this means him calling me at 9 PM when he finally gets to knock off for the day. I reall couldn't ask much more from a vet. The front staff is great also, they sometimes are harried and extremely busy but the really keep things strainght and in order and moving forward. Everyplace gets busy at times and staff can be stressed but it's how you handle it that is important and they do a top notch job!

My 1 yr old dwarf hamster had severely broken a tooth and had an irritated eye and Dr. Scarpulla knew exactly what to do. Very reasonably priced especially for a small exotic pet, extremely caring, and made me feel confident leaving my first pet in their experienced hands. The teeth clipping and inspection of my hamster's mouth required anesthesia. I was talked through the entire procedure and every care that would be taken to ensure a successful surgery since anesthesia on a small pet is very risky. An ointment was prescribed for the eye, and a follow-up appointment made to evaluate the growth of the recovering tooth. I can't thank them enough for their expert care and the warm friendly environment!
