I have had several dealings with them for the past 15 years. My dogs have always had the best of care with their regular vets. I spent over 40K in medical expenses for my dogs during that time. Cushings, Cancer, TPLO surgeries. My dogs are part of my family and they get the best treatment. I am glad that they are there and most of the staff want's to help but here are my issues. They are part of a conglomerate that controls almost 70% of the vets in our area. In wrongful death, you can only take them to court for the the price of the animal and not the emotion damage. NYS law. Their politic ethics are piss pour getting in the way of treatment. They have a good facility but rarely is any specialist on site or willing to come in on-call. I took 2 dogs in and the specialist doctor could not get there for days and the other was left to her death. I was able to save one going to my vet on Monday with good facilities, but the other one died. It was hard to get good updates on the on that died and the screwed up her remains. I know if your animal is in trouble and you have no other choice then go. Just be aware!
Even though expensive, I found the level of professionalism and care excellent. The surgeon was experienced, knowledgeable and seemed to care about our dog. The front desk and assistants were very pleasant to deal with as well. I would recommend. Ken
We had a fantastic experience here recently when our 16 year old Basenji mix got severely ill with vomiting and diarrhea and our local vet could no longer care for him. This is the only emergency vet hospital in the area so you don't have any other choice. Like others, I was concerned about some of the terrible reviews. It seems the only reviews here are 1 star or 5 stars. Very emotional time when your pet is sick and it's easy to focus on the negative when things go bad. We have nothing to complain about. Check in was quick and easy and no one mentioned money until the very end. You have to be realistic that emergency and specialty care is going to cost a lot of money - it doesn't seem all reviewers get that. We were taken back just minutes after arrival. Our dog got thorough and quick care. The doctors did not rush us and gave us great explanations about the findings and the treatment - thank you Drs. Kirk and Lamb! The discharge process 2 days later was quick and thorough as well. We are pet lovers who have been through medical emergencies before and have had both good and bad outcomes. We are sorry for the bad experiences and sadness others have had but I do not think that is representative of this hospital or the doctors based on our care.
We brought our 13 year old beagle-lab mix in when she woke up having trouble breathing, drooling, and limping. The first thing they asked us was to sign a paper allowing them to start treatment without consultation, up to $500. Of course, we didn't sign that. Then they took her away from us, and wouldn't let us be with her during the exam. They had her for over an hour before they called us back. The vet, whose name I don't remember sadly, was bored and didn't seem to have any interest in hearing about her existing problems, and when I mentioned the limp, he had the audacity to say, "I don't really care about her limp." He wanted to do multiple chest x-rays, and an abdominal x-ray, as well as bloodwork. He showed no empathy or concern four our dog, and when we asked him what his impressions of her were, he said, "Well, I can't make guesses without doing diagnostics." The chest x-rays would be $200, and the abdominal would be $100. We asked if the prices were unusually high because it was an emergency visit, and he shrugged. We told him that our normal vet only charges $54 for a chest x-ray, and asked to have a few minutes to talk. When he came back, we asked him why the x-rays were different prices. His response, and I can't believe this, was, "I'm not going to discuss that with you." Not going to discuss it with me! How dare he? There is never a time when not discussing options in a medical situations is acceptable. I told him we were leaving, and I'm afraid I swore at him. He says to me, "Hey, look. I'm sorry, alright?" and starts giving me a line about how they're open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I told him that he was in the wrong line of work if he couldn't take the time to discuss fee scales for procedures, and we stormed out. I will not pay the office visit fee, I will report them to the BBB, and I will advise my vet that she should find a different emergency vet to recommend. The monsters that run this place should be ashamed of themselves. We've been to vets in a dozen states, and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had.
They saved my dog's life. Even though it was a bit costly it was worth every penny. Now whenever I have a question and it's been about 7 months since we have been there, they are always VERY friendly when they answer the phone and ask the vet immediately about any questions I may have. They are very knowledgable and have a great caring staff. They helped carry in my 65 pound siberian husky when she was seizing uncontrollably and stabilized her. She could have lost her life, but thanks to these people and working so quickly they saved her. I am thankful for this emergency vet here in Rochester and the poor reviews they have just turn my stomach. They are worth the visit if you value your pet's life.
