A very big thank you to Dr. Bernat & Dr Parkhill for the outstanding care you gave our family with our dog. At a time when we didn't know what was going to happen you were very patient and compassionate with us. Thanks to each of you our baby is back to his old self. Honestly we don't know how to thank you enough. We are transferring our other pets to you now. Thank you for being there when our regular vet wasn't. The staff is outstanding as well. Thank you, I wish I can give you 10 Stars !

I've been bringing my cat here for a few years now and I love it. Seeing negative comments about Green Acres blows my mind because they've always been so caring and compassionate towards me and my cat. Dr.Parkhill is an excellent vet as well as Dr.Bernat. The place is well organized and clean. The rest of the staff is also very friendly.. I will continue to come here as long as I have a pet. 5 stars easily !!!

HORRIBLE PLACE! They nickel and dime you for everything. My dog, Crystal, an american pit bull, was seen there numerous times throughout her 13+ years of life. When I called to find out how much it would cost to euthanatize her due to her inability to walk and failings bladder, they told me they would have to charge me for a physical before she was put down. An additional cost of 49.99 (I love the 99 cents part). The woman who took my call said she would see if Dr. Bernat would waive the fee as Crystal was clearly on her last leg. Two minutes later I received a call saying that she would not waive the fee. So essentially they want to juice you for every penny they can, and give a 13 yr old dog who can hardly walk a physical on top of the costs of the anesthetization. THIS PLACE SUCKS! STAY AWAY! Brighton Animal Clinic was my next call and they didn't need to perform a "physical" for a 13 yr old dog that I am in tears writing about. They were very affordable, courteous and sympathetic. They also said they will make a few clay molds of Crystal's paws complimentary. I will be giving them 5 stars, and Green Acres doesn't even deserve the default star. These people are all about the dollar signs. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

We took our dog to the Northtowns Emergency clinic located in Green Acres on a Friday night due to abdomen swelling. They took an xray and found nothing wrong with her intestines or stomach which was our first concern. The Dr. found some fluid in her belly when tapping it but was unable to locate any more on 3 more attempts. He did not seem overly concerned as she had been acting normally otehrwise and mentioned we could run blood tests if we wanted or we could take her home and monitor her. His explanation was vague and there was never mention that it could be related to a condition that was life threatening. I was worried so I brought her back into the regular office on Monday to run bloodwork which determined it was her liver. They wanted to do more xrays but I declined, wanting to start with the blood test results first. I waited almost 5 hours for results, they told me they were very busy, I was finally told it was her liver. Next step was to do an ultrasound or a biopsy to determine a problem. Still no mention of how serious her condition was. I received another call almost 4 hours later that they did confirm there was fluid. I was given the option for medication, fluid testing or the biopsy and I told them I wanted to pick her up and bring her home and we would decide. When we got there they had the quotes ready, we opted to try medication first as we did not want to be invasive if unnecessary and they would send the fluid for testing. Over the next two days her condition worsened and she stopped eating. On Thursday I called to inquire about the test results as I had not heard yet and share my concerns. The Dr. said they could hospitalize her and see if that helps but there was no guarantee. I made the point to ask about euthanasia because from my own research I was starting to understand how serious her condition was, no thanks to the vet. Up to this point they had never suggested it, it was always run more tests. Thursday I did more research and found out that her symptoms were related to late stage liver failure. She most likely would not survive surgery of any kind, the anesthesia would not have processed correctly through her liver. We had to bring this up to the Dr. after doing our own research, she then admitted that we were probably correct in that even if she made it through the biopsy any further surgery necessary she was unlikely to survive. Unfortunately though we had her scheduled for a Saturday morning she did not make it that long. Friday night she began coughing up blood and we rushed her in to the same Dr. who was so nonchalant the first night. She is a nervous dog to begin with and they knew that. When the Dr. came in he squatted in front of her making her very afraid. He then sent a tech in who stared her down while she tried to get her out of the room. They ended up pulling her out of the room and muzzling her. I felt that this could have been handled with more compassion both for my sweet baby and me. In my opinion they were more concerned with running tests and making money than what was in the dogs best interest at that point.

I brought my dog in for some mild lethargy, to set the tone of this encounter. The young vet proceeded to order xrays, blood work, and a urinalysis. Fairly comprehensive workup considering he spent 30 seconds doing a physical exam. The blood work came back with mildly elevated levels of lipase, ALT, and AST (lab values associated with pancreatitis, an acute condition certain breeds are at a higher risk of). He proceeded to treat it as a medical emergency. Now, pancreatitis usually requires hospitalization...when the levels are drastically elevated. My dog had levels only slightly above normal limits, yet the doctor wanted to admit him to their emergency service, administer IV fluids, etc etc. Again, by the textbook. Unfortunately, that is all I saw was "by the text book." It was not a severe case. I withheld food for 24-48 hours, let my dog have adequate hydration, and it resolved. No occurrences since. While the care he provided may be acceptable to most people, I was not pleased with the push the hospitalize. PROS: - Follows medical practice according to best practices CONS: - Extremely expensive - Did not so much pay attention to the dog/patient as what he was taught to do in the situation. My dog was not severe enough to require a $1500+ hospitalization.
