Go elsewhere! I can't tell you how angry and frustrated I am with Dr. Heller. I brought my dog in 4 months ago when I started noticing she was very itchy as well as changes in her fur. Without doing testing of any sort he told me she had a food allergy and insisted on steroid shots and Benadryl- he never suggested changing her food or doing an elimination diet which would seem obvious for a food allergy (his response was that it's very difficult to determine an allergy). We continued to go in almost every 2 weeks as the problem continued to progress and he didn't do anything unless I suggested, or in some cases insisted, that he did it, ie- testing for mange, blood work. After 3 months of visits he called to say that her blood work was fine and that "it's just the way her fur is." What happened to the allergy? To make matters worse he kept telling me I was perceiving her fur loss. The final blow was when he told me I should see a veterinary dermatologist because there was nothing else he could do to help me. Seriously? You never did anything! I was so fed up I went to see a different vet- oddly enough she spent 2 hours doing different tests and giving her an incredibly thorough examination in which she discovered things the other vet never noticed. She even took photos to document the hair loss! After numerous tests to help narrow down the problem we left with a new food, 3 different pills and a plan of how we were going to get her better. I'd love for Dr. Heller to explain why he wasn't able to do any of those things during our numerous visits.
After bringing my dog in for some standard IV fluids to combat kidney disease, Bucalo strongly recommends putting my dog on Hills K/D immediately which I did. NOT KNOWING, NOR BEING ASKED BY THE DOCTOR IF MY DOG HAS A HISTORY OF PANCREATITIS. So after 4 days on the prescribed diet, it sent my dog into a serious case of Pancreatitis from which she is still suffering (while her kidney disease is getting much better!). When confronted with this mistake and poorly given prescription - she couldnt even apologize and admit that she had no business prescribing a specialty diet THAT EVEN THE MANUFACTURERS OF THE FOOD STATE - NEVER TO BE GIVEN TO A DOG WHO HAS A HISTORY, OR IS AT RISK FOR PANCREATITIS - which mine has been for years. Had I been asked, I certainly would never had given the food to her. I spare no expense in taking care of my dogs, and hope that the recanting of this experience prevents other dogs from being treated in this same, horrendous manner
