If I could give Akron Veterinary Referral a zero star rating, I would. After spending 4 days and over $2500, my 3-1/2-year-old JRT, who was suffering from severe pancreatitis, was worse than when I had taken her in. They had taken her off her antibiotics and just had her on hydration and pain and anti-nausea meds. When I took her home she was still not eating. Her pancreas and liver blood work was much worse after I took her home. I then took her to Dr Mark Carlson at Stow Kent Animal Hospital who put her on 2 antibiotics, steroids, and liver meds. She was eating on her own within 24 hours and has made wonderful progress since. I will NEVER take a pet to Akron Veterinary Referral again!

People who think that this hospital is only out to make money are probably the ones that don't have any money and expect to get services for free because they have an animal yet no money to take care of it. I've never gotten anything less than stellar service at AVREC, and they never force me into spending money on something that they don't think is worth it. Not every condition or disease can be cured, but if you want to find out what's going on with your sick pet or at least try to treat it, it takes money. Just because you get free healthcare from the government doesn't mean that your pet does too. If you can't afford the vet, don't get the pet!
