After failing to follow my instructions and notifying me before a risky surgery on my beautiful loving birdie (the notification was so I could have the option to tell them to wait the weekend so I could come visit before it took place which I had decided to do since it was so risky) they ignored my instructions. They then charged me slightly over $2500 on a $1600 "max" estimate and handed me back a cardboard box with my dead bird inside. By failing to follow these important instructions that they even confirmed with their office manager they robbed me the chance to say goodbye to my companion of 5 years.
Dr. Barbara Oglesby saved my bunny that had been operated on 5 previous times, by other vets. She saved her life!! I highly recommend this vet clinic to everyone. Thank you for saving Willow, exactly 2 year's ago, today Sept 19th 2012!!
My first visit to Medvet was today with Dr. Ferry, aviary specialist. I was nervous based on the reviews I saw about Medvet in general being very expensive and not offering great service. However, I am grateful I went in. All of the staff, the receptionist Jenny, Jessica, and Dr. Ferry were all very wonderful. I immediately felt welcomed. While I was waiting to be seen, I had a chance to watch interactions between the staff and other people and pets. They have genuine concern. They also treated my bird as if he was their own. My bird has been exhibiting symptoms of sickness. Dr. Ferry was very thorough with explaining all of the possibilities as well as her suggestions. She could have very well suggested blood work in order to make more money, but she suggested that it is not necessary at this time. The price was VERY reasonable and I did not feel they over charged. I will highly recommend this particular location.
NOT CLOSED!!!! The organization is currently under the umbrella of MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets.
We were fully prepared to pay emergency rates to care for our injured pet, and knew it would be expensive since we were bringing her in at 9pm. We called ahead, and they were prepared to meet us at the door. However, I would never use their service again, nor would I recommend them. From the very start, the only thing they would discuss was money. Each time we asked about how she was doing, they would reply with what they were planning to do next, and how much it would cost. I asked repeatedly if they gave her pain medicine yet, and each time they had not. I instructed them to give her the injection right away, as I did not want her to suffer. They explained it would be an extra charge, which I agreed to pay. Hours later, they showed us the Xray and said it was too difficult to be certain if she was in danger as the lungs looked 'hazy'. They recommended keeping her overnight to observe her and be sure she was okay. I could hear her whimpering in the back room. They explained the additional costs (over $1,000) to keep her and possibly inject a tube to drain fluids if necessary. My heart was aching for her, and I was afraid to take her home, but I knew she would not rest well there. She had to be scared. They brought her out to me because they could not get the muzzle on her. She was walking fine and was not struggling to breathe, so I made the risky decision to take her home with me. I did not want her to stay there and not be able to rest or be comfortable -- and I didn't want to leave her. They advised against it and made me sign paperwork indicating they were not liable. We paid over $500, and she never did get the pain medicine that I requested. I stayed up with her all night to be sure she was okay. The next day I took her to our vet, and he said we made the right decision, as she was fine and that she rested better at home. So relieved and thankful. The reason I would not recommend this facility is that 1) after being there for hours and agreeing to pay whatever, they did not give her any pain medication the entire time, even when we discharged her, so she had to make the one-hour trip home without pain meds, 2) each time they talked to us (a total of 4 times), the first thing they would discuss was money -- I felt they were more concerned about payment than the condition of our pet, 3) it felt like they played on the emotions and fear of the moment to sell unnecessary treatment. The bleeding had stopped, she was walking fine, and she was not struggling to breath, but they kept wanting to do more. I'm so thankful we brought her home. I was not going to write this review until we talked to our neighbor and found out he took his dog to this same place this winter, and their charges were over $3,000. We love our pet, but next time, we will find a different emergency service if one is needed.
