So happy with my experience there! I came in for an emergency for my dog and they knew what they were doing. I would like to thank all the students, doctors, and other staff members that took care and loved Bilbo during his stay. I also appreciated the daily calls telling us how Bilbo was doing. They do very well on explaining everything and making sure that we knew what to do with my dog when we got home. I am so happy to have my dog home safe and healthy all thanks to the staff here. Bilbo would also like to thank them for all the pill pockets he got! I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a vet or for an emergency.

Our 10 month old cat broke his femur late one night. We immediately took him to OSU Vet Hospital. It was a clean break of the femur set very high up. Cherval got great care from the outset. The Vet that saw him that night was wonderful. She was quick, and kind, and thorough. Her assistant was gentle and careful with Cherval. She even brought him to us to see before they put him down for the night prior to the surgery. Both the vet and her assistants earned our full trust and gratitude. The surgery was for a plate and 7 pins. Cherval is currently recovering well. The surgeon, Dr. Wanstrath, did great work, and her as well as everyone else's follow up was knowledgeable, timely and genuinely caring. She even took my call Saturday morning when I had a medication concern, she listened, and solved the issue. From the outset, the staff disclosed the costs thoroughly. They were more sensitive to the money than we were! We understand the staff doesn't set prices. Research showed later that the costs were similar to national averages. (Surgery was $2000 total--a bit better than average.) I don't normally write reviews but I was so happy with the care they gave our little guy, and relieved that they would be so good, that I wanted to pass it on and help put others at ease who might find themselves with an injured animal.

Painful experience with Dr. P, the nutritionist. Our dog has a serious illness and needed a nutrition consultation, but it took two weeks for them to return our phone calls to even set up an appointment. When we finally had the appointment, the doctor did not even know the sex of my dog and asked several questions that showed she had not read the information form we filled out prior to the appointment. So at the very start we had serious questions about her ability to properly advise us about feeding our dog. But we were already in the middle of the consult so we continued... After the appointment, she provided a single diet recipe consisting of 4 ingredients; the charge for this and the consult was well over $300, and we are not confident in her abilities or judgement so will still need another consultation (definitely not with OSU). In addition, when we asked questions, she either could not answer them (a follow-up email question) or told us we didn't know anything, she is the vet (during the consult). The desk staff gets the one star for this appointment. If I could give zero stars for Dr. P, I would.

We’ve had several great experiences at the OSU vet clinic. After our regular vet referred us there the first time for an extensive procedure, we were happy to return over the years for other concerns that were not routine. The doctors and residents are very knowledgeable and inform you so you can make the best decision for you and your pet. As far as other comments regarding the finances; we didn’t feel like they were much higher than our regular vet. We did have to take him there for an emergency on a Saturday night, and the exam fee alone was $130, but anytime you seek ER care it comes with a price. They also offer a lot of additional diagnostic tools- MRI, CAT scan, etc., and these are typically expensive to preform anywhere. Currently, our dog is receiving chemo infusions- we know he is in the best hands possible when he’s there.

We went in feeling good about the place. They were attentive and informative and caring... It was Sat. 24 hour vet hospital but since it was Sat."Emerg.Only"- cost applied $139.00. They suggested blood work and x-rays, which is understandable. They found our dog had swallowed something and they suggested surgery. We get that. We asked how much? Reply: $2,000.00 to $3,000.00 it's a pretty routine procedure since dogs swallow stuff all the time. Also, they replied, he's 13 so we'd like to do a chest x-ray and ultrasound to make sure he's healthly and that will help you in making the decision. We then asked- what is our cost with these 2 tests and the x-ray blood work we've done so far. Reply: $700.- $800. Ok, so heres where we had a very big problem..... We had gone home while the tests were being done. They called with results, all were good he's a healthy 13 year old. We decided to go ahead with the surgery. When I went in to see him and sign the paperwork for the surgery, there was no itemized anything. Our vet can do a full itemized sheet on the surgery, they have a minimum to maximum sum at the bottom which is within $500.00. At OSU the bottom of the contract, by the signature there was a hand written estimate of $3,000.00 to $4,000.00! I asked why it went up $1,000.00. The question was grazed over with other information. As a pet owner this is a tramatic time, you want do anything for your beloved animal. Then the "Student Vet" went into the cenario of the cost- if the dog coded on the table, which there are 3 options DNR, yellow code or red code. My question was if you are operating on a dog would you not try to save them anyway? (which is yellow code). I was shaken up and felt as if something was just wrong. I called my husband and told him of the new $3,000. to 4,000.00 estimate. He said to hold off and have him monitored overnight to see if it might pass through his system (which has happen several times in the past). They said of course, but if we feel he has a problem we will take him to surgery. I get that, but something made me feel we would never know and I bet he was gonna have surgery regardless. Afterall, I just signed that contract. So the decision was, he should stay. They asked me to go pay a deposit. When I got to the cashier, the DEPOSIT (not total) was $1,250.00. The tests were est.at 700. to 800. So it was 450.00 to spend the night? I had $350.00 cash. They said we'll take that, but will you go home and get your checkbook and come back? "Come on people, you have our dog"!! I called for my husband to bring cash. By this time I was Pissed and needed to leave! I called my husband on the way out to review what has happened in this 5 hour day and the inconsistency of the pricing. After all this is a SCHOOL of LEARNING I'm not even sure if the students are licesenced vets. The decision was to pull him out of there! The total cost was 888.00 + the initial 139.00. We ended up at our vet Monday, he had surgery and the 2nd evening he passed. On a side note we observed 2 dogs in that day who had amputated legs. While I don't know their story, it just seemed a red flag that there might be extreme surgery on animals for the purpose of learning. It's not for experimenting and un-needed procedures. Then to take advantage of pricing double to triple what our licensed Vet of 30 years does. SHAME ON YOU- OSU VET HOSPITAL. You need too respect a distressed animal owner and regroup on how you run your, novice- not expert pricing. God Bless you Rocco.
