Our dog took a turn for the worse at 3am on New Years day. Our normal vet was not in and wouldn't be in the next day due to the holiday. Due to our dogs suffering, we felt we couldn't wait. We took him to The Rascal Unit. The staff there did not know our dog and did not know us but we were treated like family. Our dog passed comfortably and the staff did everything they could to comfort us. I am so grateful for their kindness and empathy. They were there when we needed them.
Rascal Unit is the worst vet experience I've ever had. I just waited on hold for 30 minutes. What could possibly take a receptionist 30 minutes at a veterinary clinic? Not to mention the woman answered the phone and I heard her say "oops" because she didn't mean to take me off hold, but then placed me back on hold instead of taking my call.. When she finally did take my call she was a rude bitch. The only good thing about them is they're not expensive. And my first time going there I told them my pup had passed away the DAY BEFORE and I needed to get my female dog her parvo shots and vaccinations asap and I was there for 5 hours.
I was recommended to the Rascal Mobile Clinic by my normal vet to have my dog spayed. When I found out the price, I told my mom. We went to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and scheduled our appointments. When we dropped off our dogs, it was a giant, unorganized clusterf***, which I expected due to the price. My mom recieved a call and they stated that her dog needed a teeth cleaning, and that they could do it while she was out to be spayed and save on the cost of anesthesia, so my mom agreed. She told them that if anything major came up during the cleaning that they were to call her. When we arrived to pick them up, they started going over our paperwork for post op care. They informed my mom that she would need to give her dog antibiotics for her dental work, which we thought was weird because she was only getting a cleaning. As we were walked up front to pay, I was looking over the girls shoulder at the paperwork and saw that it said EXTRACTION. I asked if they pulled any teeth, and she informed us that they had done an extraction. It wasn't just 1 or 2 teeth, though. They had pulled 11 of the dogs teeth with no call to my mom, even after she asked for one. My mom was extremely upset since she was blindsided with the pulling of the dogs teeth. She asked to speak to someone about it before she paid for the services. When we were finally able to speak to someone (who was the person my mom asked to have someone call if anything major came up), they said the teeth were pulled because they were loose after the cleaning. While she understood after the explanation, it did not change the fact that they didn't call. And while we were trying to talk with the lady who pulled the teeth, she had some random woman with her chiming in when she knew nothing of the situation. She worked for a rescue and was there to pick her animal up. The way the entire situation was handled was terrible. There was never an apology or anything to try to make the situation better. I want to make it clear that I think the Humane Society is a great place and have actually adopted a dog from them. Just be careful when having your animal treated by the Rascal Mobile Unit there.
ALWAYS awesome experience, treat my baby's like they are their own!!!! Ive had 10 animals spayed/neutered with them!!!
My girlfriend took in a stray cat that ended up having kittens in the house. She took the mother and two of the kittens (all inside cats) to be fixed and get rabies shots, at rascal unit Dublin, momma cat is around 2 years old by our guess and the kittens are just under 8 months. Three perfectly healthy cats come in the door for routine surgeries and injections and within a week all three are on deaths doorstep. Total cost for three $35-$40 surgeries and rabies shots. As of right now well into the $700 range. Either there is something shady about the surgical practices or they are not quarantining animals with signs of transmittable infection. Whichever is the case it would have been cheaper and better for the welfare of the animals to take them somewhere else.....
