I so appreciate the doctors and staff at Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care! My very ill kitten, Gandolph, was there for almost a week. I was allowed to call and check on him at all hours since we live almost 2 hours away, and was always treated with kindness and respect. Plus, my little guy received excellent medical care, and survived a very dangerous surgery to drain an abscess off his chest. I am very grateful for everything they did for him, and us. I highly recommend Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care!
Do not go here! Two days ago my dog had been kicked in the pelvis by a neighbors horse. His back leg was basically rubber, and we rushed him to the first emergency pet hospital we found. BIG MISTAKE. The attendants were basically desensitized and very unprofessional when we walked in the door. About 30 minutes after arriving we were able to take Harley home with a $350 bill for them to give him a shot, an uneducated x-ray (the tech basically said the area was inflamed and couldn't make a judgment), and a bottle of pills. Their conclusion was that he was just inflamed from the incident and needed the swelling to go down. We loaded him back in the back seat of the truck so he could lay down across and rest. As we pulled up to the gas station 2 blocks away from the hospital he started gasping for breaths... 2 minutes later he started seizures with his mouth (making a sort of teeth grinning action) that I now conclude were his nerves reacting after he had already died. But we weren't 100% sure of this yet. So we rushed back to the hospital, the doctor came outside with a stethoscope and said she didn't hear a heartbeat. My mothers cries still disturb me to this moment. I only wonder if we didn't bring him to this "funeral home", if he'd still be alive today. Was the shot they gave him his undoing? I do not know, and neither do they. This is why I came here to post my review.... I hope no one has to see their dog die by an incompetent humans uneducated mistake. I love you and miss you a lot, Harley. (Nov. 2011-Jan. 2014)
This place in my opinion is horrible. They had no sense of urgency and didn't seem to be animal lovers. I don't even want to give this place 1 star. Please don't take your pet here. It wasn't my dog I took there, it was a dog that was hit by a car that we had brought up there. The dog was scared, crying, all alone and in pain in the back room. When we were in there with her petting her she was ok, but they made us leave and the dog started crying again bc she was scared and alone. They just didn't seem to be what i would want an animal hospital worker to be like if they were taking care of my animal. I will never take my dog or any other animal there again.
My dog spent a week here, along with multiple follow up visits, after being pretty critically injured in a dog fight. I can't say enough positive things about my experience with the entire staff. I never worried about my dog being cared for and well treated while in their facility. I called several times a day, throughout the the week and they were always patient, kind, caring and gave me informative updates. I was able to visit my pup any time of day just by calling ahead to make sure they had a room available where I could visit. There were several veterinarians who looked after my dog, but the transitions of care were seamless, thanks to well kept notes and great communication skills. Thank you to everyone at VECCH, especially Dr. DuBois and Dr. Auwarter.
The vet failed to properly diagnose my dog. We brought our dog in because she ate something we thought might poison her. Dr. Blair at this facility induced vomiting, gave her iv fluids, kept her overnight in the ICU, and more. Dr. Blair told us that dogs had died from ingesting what our dog did. A little research and a visit to our regular vet confirmed that our dog was never in danger. She did not eat enough of the substance to cause a problem, but Dr. Blair had the bottle of what the dog ate so she should have known that our dog did not need to be treated. She should have known that it was not a problem and sent us home. On top of that, they did blood work that turned out to be inaccurate that made me think our dog had other problems. So $600+ later, my dog was fine to begin with. Your experience will depend on which vet you get and what is going on in the office while you are there, but be warned that they have a tendency to overdo care to the detriment of your pet and your pocketbook. I am updating this review because I read the review below about the dog who ate two bags of M&M's. The reviewer didn't give specifics, but I wouldn't be surprised if the dog would have been fine anyway. In most cases, especially with milk chocolate, the dog might have an upset stomach, but it will be fine. This emergency vet would never tell a dog owner to take a pet home and just watch them. They will take any minor pet emergency and work it up into a nice bill. You say that $300 is reasonable, but for many people, they would be sacrificing paying for groceries or medicine to "save their dog." This clinic is interested in one thing...your money. And they will offer up all kinds of unnecessary vet care to get you to pay up.
