Wonderful experience for us responsible, knowledgeable owner of six dogs. It's unfortunate to read the negative comments from the other users, but when one knows how to care for their pet and understands what practicing medicine entails, they aren't so quick to become negative like others you see. The staff at this hospital and many others is full of animal-loving individuals whom must be tired of seeing irresponsibility from folks like those that left the other comments here...folks whom just don't understand what it means to be trusted with an animal's life. Yet, day in and day out these professionals put on a smile and try their best to educate those whom feel they already know everything. Keep on doing your best, VCA Woodland..and know that you've got many folks that trust your expertise. Likewise, good riddance to those that can't care for their animals as they should. Due to a recent emergency with my dog, I would like to advise anyone who has an animal with an orthopedic issue to seek another opinion before allowing this hospital to "PRACTICE" on your animal. My dog had a simple fracture, one that the vet assured me she could surgically correct. After a 27 hour wait (she was hit by a car after our pool service neglected to shut the gate) the vet performed surgery. After hours of waiting, we learned from the vet that she was experiencing problems while operating. She attempted to reach her "mentor" for assistance and advice during the procedure, he/she was not able to come and assist. This vet kept getting in deeper and deeper and did not have the experience needed for this procedure. AFTER the surgery, she recommended we check with a specialist, Oklahoma Vet Associates (Dr Ricker) for his opinion. We transferred our pet to OVS in Jenks that evening!!! Our pet had just undergone a 4 hour procedure and VCA Woodland removed her IV, due to inflammation at the IV location. When I asked the administrator of the hospital why the IV was removed she said "haven't you heard of blowing a vein"? YES, I HAVE, that's when you re-locate the IV!!! Also, after surgery, she was left laying on a concrete floor with a couple of old ratty looking towels. The following day, Dr Ricker at Oklahoma Vet Associates performed surgery on our pet to correct the surgery done at VCA. He removed the plate and screws in her leg from the VCA Woodland procedure and used a higher quality, larger plate and longer screws to not only repair the broken leg but the mistakes made by VCA Woodland. Our pet had a successful surgery at OVS. Although, this was a set-back for our pet due to 2 major surgeries, 2 days in a row. By the way, the vet at VCA was having difficulty getting the screws in the plate in our dogs leg and broke another bone in our dogs "already broken" leg in the process. She was also unable to get all the screws in the plate, she had no choice but to "wrap up the surgery" and give us the BAD news. I have used VCA Woodland for nearly 20 years prior to this, but staffing has changed over the years and I would not recommend this hospital. PLEASE get a 2nd opinion pet-owners. We trusted our pet was in the best of hands...she was not. This vet's biography reads: "has a strong interest in surgery (soft tissue and orthopedic) and continues to expand her experience in this area". PLEASE seek a professional that IS experienced, not one that has an interest in expanding their experience. I would no allow her to expand her experience on my pet had I know in advance!!! YOUR PET DESERVE the best care and I hope to spare you our nightmare experience.
We had used Woodland for many, many years. We were loyal clients and brought our dogs and cat there regularly. Earlier tonight, we had a family emergency and were called out of town unexpectedly, so I called to see how late we could bring our cat in to be boarded. The phone was answered by a very rude girl named Britney. I asked her very politely if we could bring our kitty in for emergency boarding to which she replied 'well you'd better hurry up and get here' in a tone that fully implied that she was offended that I would call and ask such a -horrible- thing, to bring our cat in this time of night. I explained to her that we had a death in the family and had to rush out of town to pick up children and would be gone several days, to which she replied 'and I should care, why? We close at 9 you better be here by then if you want to board the cat.' I told her that I could try to be there by 9, and she said 'If not have someone else bring them in the morning.' and then she hung up on me. After speaking to her, I really didn't want to leave my cat in their care. I understand that people want to get clocked out at the right time on the dot, but treating your customers like they're criminals for having an emergency and refusing to stay five extra minutes...well I won't be going back there anytime soon and if Britney reads this, I hope she develops manners if she plans on continuing to work in customer relations because she just cost the hospital a loyal client.
I rescued my pug last summer, from a failing animal shelter and immediately made an appointment at VCA since it was the closest vet to my house. I signed up for the "best care" package, which to say the least was not a fitting name. The package was supposed to include a full evaluation of the dog's health, as well as de-worming, and shots. When my boyfriend went to pick up the dog, it ended up costing us $80 more than they had quoted us, because they supposedly gave her 1 or 2 treatments without consulting us. They also told us when we left, that our dog hadn't been given ANY of the shots included in the package, and to return for them when she was healthier. (I called back after my dog received her heartworm treatment, and they told me I needed to pay an additional $60 to examine her before they could give me the shots I had already paid for! Ridiculous, and UN-PROFESSIONAL if you ask me!) The vet was very knowledgeable, I'll give them that. They eventually ended up giving me some bad news that my dog had heartworms, hookworms, kennel cough, and abcesses on her teeth which needed removing. The estimate for her teeth alone during an "august promotion" was over $700. Needless to say we couldn't afford any of the other treatments either. So, luckily we were referred to a FANTASTIC vet, named Dr. Holly Holland out at Oak Grove Veterinary Hospital in Coweta (it's a drive, but totally worth it) and that is where my dog received her treatment. When compared to estimates from VCA, Oak Grove is LESS THAN HALF THE COST! And, Dr. Holland is wonderful with my dog! Needless to say, I will NEVER make the mistake of taking my animals there again.
