Dr. Burgess is the best vet EVER! When Crixus, my ferret, started having symptoms he went downhill horribly fast. I was terrified of taking him to the ferret vet my daughter used and found Dr. Burgess instead. From the first visit, we loved this vet. Crixus had lost his fur over half his body. On the other half, his hair was sparse and he had scratched sores into his skin. He had lost 8 oz (a lot for a ferret). Dr. B examined him, handling him expertly and gently - and gave us a diagnosis of adrenal tumor along with tons of *detailed* information about the disease, treatment options, and likely outcomes. He even drew pictures of the surgery. Once Crixus was in surgery, a tiny (pancreatic) insulinoma was found and removed. The bad adrenal gland as well. And sadly, there were lymph nodes removed and found to be cancerous. Again we received treatment options with *complete* details. Dr. B and the vet tech, Bill, who has done most of Crixus' chemo treatments, show the utmost care and concern for our baby! And Crixus *loves* them! First thing he does when they pick him up is to give them kisses! He still has more chemo ahead, but he's growing his fur back fast, gained the lost weight back right away, and plays again like he feels great! These folks saved my baby's life. There is no doubt that he'd have died by now without their care. I'll never have allow another vet to see my babies. I can't say enough good things about Dr. B...and Bill, and the rest of the folks at Southwest Animal Hospital.

I've taken my guinea pig here for years. They are always friendly and responsive, whether it's for something serious or just a quick nail trim. Both Vets are very knowledgeable as well as the Vet Techs. They are just a phone call away for quick care questions, and always happy to help. I'd recommend them to anyone with exotics for great care.

Thank You for the excellent service & care you gave my chinchillas. Chilly Willy & Mr. Chinch. Chilly can run, jump & bank better then ever! You would never know he had a broken arm. Yes! Dr. Burgess was able to insert a very tiny pin in Chilly's arm! 8 weeks later with no jumpimg allowed and Mr. Chinch by his side he recovered prefectly!! We love you Dr. Burgess Chilly & Chinch

I do not understand the 1 star reviews. Dr Burgess is great with exotic aniamls. And he will treat your cat or dog too. I have had nothing but exceptional service there. Even the techs are very helpful. If you do not have a plan for your treatment, they will take whatever action they feel is best. And I stand by that choice

We adopted a hedgehog off craigslist, more like rescued her since she was in a house filled with fleas! After I brought the hedgie home and found out she had fleas too, I rushed her to this vet. It was 3:30pm and the receptionist said didn't have any appointments left that day, but they offered a drop off, where they would keep her and see her first thing in the morning. I reluctantly agreed since I have dogs at home and didn't want to make the problem worse. But when the vet found out what the problem was, he found time between appointments and checked her out. Then got flea meds not only for hedgie but for my dogs just in case since I had brought her in the house before I found out they were on her. I would highly recommend this vet and the ladies that work there!!
