Over a month ago, my best gelding tangled with a wheel-line in the field. He ended up with a fractured knee and deep wound. The staff at Crater Animal decided that transporting him back home would do further damage to the knee! Laying down was not an option. Together, we rigged up a cable across the top of the stall so we could tie him high. He stayed there for one month. I visited every day. The whole staff went above and beyond making sure that me and my family were always welcome at any time to visit. Someone was always there to update me and answer all my questions. Most of all, I was satisfied that my gelding was comfortable at all times and never in any pain. Thank you Crater Animal Staff. All of you are doing a great job!!!!!

I have used Crater Animal Clinic for the care of my horses since 1994 with complete satisfaction. It is easy to get an appointment with my “usual vet” out of the 3 equine vets. When my daughter and I were competing locally at dressage shows, Dr. Keiser was very aware of our needs. We were referred to Corvallis for further specialized care when necessary. My horse had bladder stones that Dr. Keiser and his surgery team removed with an easy recovery, instead of an abdominal surgery costing thousands with lots of potential complications. There was never any judgement on my poor judgement resulting in a foundered, and then euthanized horse. Panic phone calls when dinners weren’t eaten were treated seriously. I once called because my horse was walking backwards in the field. They came right out. After hour phone calls were answered quickly with satisfactory information; options given for measures to try at home, trailing in or farm call visits were always given. The “new” facilities are easy to find, large enough to accommodate many trailers with easy turn-around. Gates provide safety if a horse should pull loose. The round pen provides an easy place to put my extra horses while working on the current patient. The staff has always been helpful....coming out quickly to offer help with unloading if needed, loading as we leave. They are patient with my nervous and herd bound horse...in this case a 16 hand TB who only leaves his pasture once a year for his shots/teeth. The inside is clean, safe, open and spacious making it comfortable to bring in this high strung horse who can move quickly. All procedures are always throughly explained, with understanding should they be refused (due to lack of funds in my case). Prices are always given, billing on my credit card has never been a problem, and a complete list of price/procedures is always mailed ( I usually have my hands full when leaving with the horses) When my truck didn’t start, I was allowed to keep in there until later that week when I could get it fixed, and I have left my trailer when a horse needed to spend the night, saving me money in gas hauling it back and forth. My daughter once passed out when her horse’s abscess was being cleaned and drain put it. The staff was extremely helpful with providing a place for her to recover. There’s even a bathroom for us right in the treatment area. Crater Animal has participated in lots of local community education seminars and offered their services to support our Pony Club. This summer I had to euthanize my 23 year old horse due to colic. I had never met the vet who showed up. She was young. She was extremely professional, did a thorough exam, explained the options, consulted with Dr. Keiser and waited patiently while I made my decision. She treated both me, my horse, and my family/friends with the greatest respect. If I was pressed to say one negative thing about Crater Lake, it would be that it is usually colder and fogger in the winter than at my house; I wear a wool hat.
