    As a person who has raised and trained dogs and horses my entire life, never in my life have a met a vet clinic where the bedside manner was completely disregarded. Instead of asking you the routine care you are providing for your puppy, they tell you that "we dont condone 'puppy behavior' here", and that even though I know the breeder very well, that they should not be trusted. My new puppy is only 13 weeks old, is working on basic commands, LOVES everyone....and well, is a puppy. Before I left, with a stern look Dr Smith also said "Are you SURE you dont want some advice on training and puppy behavior?" (As my little guy was sitting on the floor just looking up at her." They also stepped on my poor little guys foot, and I hear him yelping incessantly. After which the vets palpation's also left him yelping. Where she told me I did not desensitize my dog enough. Honestly, I am here for a wellness exam for a dog that I know the complete history of, his parents, their parents, and the family of breeders. I did not come to a vet to be talked down to like a 5 year old child, by someone who has clearly not taken an etiquette class. I will I would not recommend this vet (Dr Smith), or the clinic, as they all seemed very judgy and abrasive, and if it was an inconvenience for them to have to see my sweet little guy. Will not return.

    When I recently bought my first dog since High School naturally the first thing I did was call my Dad (Dr. Joe, the town Vet back home) for advice on choosing a Vet for my new pup. He told me to visit a couple places, find a Vet/Clinic that I trusted, and build a lifelong relationship between me, them, and my pet. Luckily I came to Southgate first on a coworker recommendation, and I couldn't be happier. The staff is friendly and professional, their prices are reasonable, and I never feel like they are pushing products on me, or trying to up-sell on services. Dr. Edens has been great, and my coworker loves her doc as well.

    I've been taking my dogs and cats (about a dozen in all) since the early 80's, before the current staff was even there. But this staff is WONDERFUL! Especially my designated vet, Dr. Ricker. She has seen us through ALL of our pets. She is so patient and caring, asks about the family, the other current animals and so on. She is patient and caring with the animals and you can tell she genuinely cares for each and every one of them. When she's not there, and I HAVE to go to one of the other vets, I still know that they are well taken care of, and the staff will always let her know that we were in. In fact, this last week we had one of our dogs go down (like a previous one we had-and it ended badly). We rushed her in. By the time we were there she was fine. The diagnosis was a seizure and to keep an eye on her. The next day Dr. Ricker came in, she gave me a call to touch bases...they had let her know what happened. They didn't NEED to do that, all was well...but they all know that she is our vet of choice and made sure that she was aware of what had happened. I LOVE HER, and the rest of the family does as well.

    Just went through a very difficult experience and I am grateful I was with them through it. After just moving me and my pyrie to portland I noticed a lump.. They were incredibly sweet and geniune throughout, tripple checked the results without being asked, gave me as much of their time as I needed without ever rushing me, were very knowledgeble and clear, and made the whole experience bearable. Dr. Ricker was just incredible at every step, equally good with my pup and with us. On the last day their front desk staff even came in to say goodbye to him, and we were allowed to be in their at the end where they all treated him as if he had been their own. It will be a little while until I get another dog but when I do, if I am still in Portland, he will be a regular visitor here.

    I brought my kitty in for cremation services after talking with Kathy. She was very helpful and explained everything to me. I brought Buddy in the next morning and was helped by Sara at the desk. I did not receive the service I expected after talking with Kathy on the phone. I went back in later that afternoon to pay for the services and dealt with Sara again. Apparently she did not remember me at all as I had to explain to her the details of why I was there. Then she went into the back for 10 minutes before taking my payment. When I asked she told me that she couldn't find the paperwork. Then she charged me $20 more than I was quoted, but brought the price back down when I explained that to her. The next day I got a call from Susan, who sounded very nice on the phone, to let me know that I could pick up Buddy's remains. When I went in to pick Buddy's remains Sara was at the counter and busy with another customer. When she was finished with the other customer she leaned back in her chair and asked me what I wanted. Now, this is the third time I have seen Sara in two days and I would think she would have enough recognition of me to at least offer a helpful and friendly attitude. This was after a bad experience with Linwood over getting Buddy's cremation services taken care of. I don't believe I will be going back to Southgate again either. Having never had a complaint with a veterinarian before it's pretty surprising to have two in two days, and both with the front desk or the office policies. Nor have I ever left negative feedback for anyone before these two experiences.
