I have taken my cat, my hamster and my dog to Dove Lewis. I've always been touched and thankful for the care and friendliness of the nurses and doctors. I had to put my cat and hamster down. The amount of support and concern they showed for me and family were great.

We had to take our dog in after her normal vet performed emergency surgery. The cost of the overnight stay was okay. This was the first & only time we have used Dove Lewis. I think we were there for about an hour to get her looked at and checked in. The staff knew she was coming in, our normal vet called in advance. They were really busy. It's very frustrating to have poor vet care especially when it's an emergency. We had used another emergency vet place in Tanasbourne for another dog we had and at first we thought they were great... they saved our dogs life until the next day they forced our dog out of their facility because they thought he would do better at home. 4 hours later we were back to their facility due to a complication of the surgery (oh that we were never told could happen). When we told them that the 3K+ they already charged was all we had until we got paid again (this was a Sunday and we were getting paid on Tuesday) they stated they would keep him over night for observation but couldn't do any more test or surgery without payment. They forced me to take my dog home first thing Monday morning even though he couldn't use his back legs. I was told to call our normal vet. Well I called our normal vet in Forest Grove 3 times in 3 hours and couldn't get the vet to call me back. Things got much worse with my dog and the emergency vet wasn't open during the day (we were new to the area and didn't know DoveLewis existed at this time). So we took a recommendation from a neighbor and went to see Frontier in Hillsboro. The vet there was so understanding and did everything she could for our dog but we ended up having to put him down. So we felt that finally we found a vet office that actually cared for our beloved pets. Started using them on a regular basis with all our babies. Here about 10 months ago they did an emergency surgery on our dog and let us pay over 3 months but since then things have declined there. Now after using them for 2.5 years we are falling out of love with them too because it just seems like all they have on their minds is money... charging high fees for every little thing they can. The staff is usually very friendly and caring, that hasn't changed. Because of the vets and staff we paid the higher fees. We just had another incident here a couple months ago that is now the cause of our disgust with them. We are moving to another state soon so it will be interesting to see what we find there. This story here is just to let everyone know that pretty much all vets rather they are emergency or non-emergency can be nice, loving and caring but as soon as money becomes an issue their attitude will change. I have lived in 2 states all my life and found this to be true in both states.

I will never come back to this place of business. As that is all it is about for them, business. They left us to sit for 3hrs + with our dying dog because they wanted to do other procedures to make sure our pet, whom we love so much was indeed dying. Our faithful family pet was dying and all you wanted was what??? as much money as you could make??? Maybe you work well for others, but you have tainted your name with us.

I was scared to death that I would have to make my pet's life a financial decision. They helped me get through the tears, fear and navigate the financial aspect. I am forever grateful

I've had reason to be glad that there is a compassionate, 24-hour emergency animal hospital in Northwest Portland. People bringing pets here should be aware that due to the emergency focus of DoveLewis, triage may happen, and pets with less serious problems may wait longer. Also, rates vary depending on the time of day. However, the standard of care is high. DoveLewis also has a pet loss support group that's excellent.
