I was a loyal customer here and have spent thousands of dollars here on my pets, until the Dr.lectured me on how I was an irresponsible pet owner because I got my kitten spayed at the humane society when I couldn't afford his prices. Talked to me like I was an idiot girl who didn't deserve to have pets. He proceeded to lectured me about how the humane society is unfair competition for his business. I will NEVER go back to this vet.

As a first time pet owner I am glad that I wound up at this animal clinic. I found the staff and Dr. very friendly and full of useful information. The first week I had my new dog I must have called at least once a day, with some pretty obtuse questions, but the staff was always friendly and helpful. I would defiantely recommend this clinic to others.

My first experience with Portland Animal Clinic was over twenty years ago when the office was run by Dr Collins. When my husband and I met, he had an aged German Shepherd that was ten or so years old that had developed mange and was being treated at Portland Animal Clinic. The dog was being taken to the clinic to be dipped twice weekly and on three separate occasions, we arrived to pick him up and found him RUNNING LOSE. On the first occasion we pulled into the parking lot and he was standing there loose. The receptionist said she couldn't imagine how he got out. On the second, we found him trotting down hwy 109 very lost and confused. We picked him up turned around and went home- not telling the vet's office we had him- and waited for them to call, informing us that the dog was missing. The call never came. It wasn't difficult to figure out what was happening- after the treatments they were putting the dog outside in a kennel to dry. A kennel which had a 2 foot gap under the bottom of the fence. With much reservation, we took him back for his next appointment with strict instructions that he was not to be placed in the kennel or left outside in any manner, for any reason. The third time was not a charm. We found him wondering around a grocery store parking lot dodging cars and limping badly. He had crossed 109 in heavy traffic and was injured in the process. The vet tech swore she hadn't noticed the huge gap under the fence... The gap was easily visible from the road. I cant fathom how anyone could have not noticed it. My more recent experience with the clinic has not been much better I'm sorry to say. Taking into consideration that the incident with the GSD was more than twenty years past, there was a new vet, new staff, etc., and combined with the fact that we were in a serious bind, we cautiously decided to give PAC another try. We had rescued a feral dog that was in the beginning stages of socialization when a family emergency made it necessary to leave town for a few days. The tech assured me they would be fine caring for my 'problem child', they were professionals and well equipped to handle any problems or behavioral issues that might arise. Later that evening a girl called and asked if I wanted the dog bathed and groomed while she was there. My answer was "no". Early the next morning another girl called confirming that the dog was supposed to be groomed. I clarified that she was not to be and explained, again, that the dog should not be unnecessarily forced or put into any situation that she wasn't mentally prepared to cope with. Well, sure enough on my return, I was met at the door by two angry teenagers, furious, as they both complained of having been bitten whilst grooming "that little monster." They stammered some off the wall excuse that the dog just HAD to be bathed... (which added a substantial chunk to the boarding bill of coarse.) As I was leaving, one made the comment that they would be happy if I never brought the dog back. Not a problem, girls! ;) Personal feelings aside, my biggest concern is that the office is primarily staffed by teenagers. Milking people for a few bucks is one thing, giving clueless kids free rein with potentially dangerous dogs is inexcusable.

We were a new couple to Portland and chose to go with Portland Animal Clinic because it was the closest vet clinic to us. This turned out to be the worst decision we have ever made for our pet. Over a period of 3 months they made up ailments that our puppy was having, only to treat these supposed problems with expensive and toxic drugs that had very serious side effects. Dr. Tulacz is truly a "poke and hope" vet, who always turns to harsh drugs without conclusive evidence to back it up. We went to Pearl Animal Clinic after our puppy's skin problem was getting so bad she was biting herself and bleeding, and they discovered she had an ear infection that had gone completely undetected. This was after we had paid for 4 full examinations from Dr. Tulacz, who failed to even lift up her ear once! Whenever we walk by from the street we hear yelping animals who sound like they are in pain. They never let us view any of the procedures they were doing to our pet, and the clinic was always dirty and smelled foul. I can't believe we took our puppy here for all of her vaccinations and checkups when we could have paid the same price to take her to Pearl Animal Clinic, who have a staff of caring and cutting-edge technicians and vets. Dr. Tulacz also pushes the Science Diet on any client, telling them it is the only food that will work for their pet. After doing our research we found out that Science Diet is the fast food equivalent of dog food, even though it is the same price as all the natural food brands. Don't make the same mistake we did by taking your business to Portland Animal Clinic. He is outdated and needs to retire. Don't allow him to treat you and your animal with the blatant disrespect we experienced.

now maybe i have not been going to the same veterinarians and groomers as some of the the people here, but I found the staff at portland animal clinic to be helpful and professional. i needed our cat's vaccinations updated and also have her groomed and nails clipped. i found the rates for grooming were very reasonable compared to prices i have payed for grooming in other parts of the country before i moved. i was also able to easily make an appointment, which is less than i can say for some of the other downtown groomers. would bring my cat back there.
