Immaculate facility. Knowledgeable vets and staff. They know how to do proper placement for hip and elbow OFA clearances which I travel 3 hours each way for. To the nitwit who is blaming the office for their puppy's illness, I agree with the other poster. That came from where the puppy originally lived, NOT from the vet's office. Perhaps the puppy was too young to have a parvo vaccine ( I have vaccinations done at 8 weeks of age and puppies go home at 9 weeks of age) for my once a year litter raised in my home! I think that rating is defamatory, accusatory and if the office wanted to could sue for slander. They have too much class to do probably do that in my opinion. The poster has NO proof what and where the dog got whatever it had from, no necropsy report, NOTHING. Shame on you for pinning it on this vet! Their office shines from cleanliness!
My two dogs have been treated regularly at Steinbach and at this point I have met most of the vets in the practice. Through some pretty nasty problems - brain tumor, gastric problem, heart murmur... the vets have all been very professional, thorough, and excellent with owners and animals both. They took extra care to prevent accidental vaccination of one dog that was terribly allergic to two different vaccines. They explain each situation and procedure well and are reassuring when reassurance is called for. I'm pleased and I'll be continuing to take my pets to Steinbach even though it's a longer drive for me.
*** Their contaminated facility, equipment, inadequately trained staff, filthy containment areas resulted in the death of my puppy *** This is by far the worst Veterinary Hospital I have ever been to or heard of. I brought my children's new puppy here for shots & check-ups (2 visits). The puppy was the only animal at my fenced-in single house. My daughter and son watched our puppy seizure and (bloody) diarrhea herself to death. We were told by the vet that our dog had died from Parvo. We were advised by the vet to wait until she put on more weight before she was given the Parvo Vaccine. It wasn't until years later that I had spoken with my children's new vet and learned that contrary to what I was told, the puppy most likely contracted it at the Vet Hospital. Our dog had no exposure to other animals & was walked only on our fenced-in property. Our dog was sick within a week of her vet visit at Steinbach Veterinary Hospital. Now knowing what I know about Parvovirus, I'm utterly disappointed in myself for not taking the proper action years ago when this had happened (in monitoring diarrhea). Before they could release her body to us so that my kids could bury her and get closure, I had to PAY THEM for the vet care. I essentially paid them for killing my dog. They KNEW what they did to us and God only knows how many other animals were infected with Parvovirus due to their carelessness. I do remember the doctor speaking kindly to my sobbing children, which is the only thing I am thankful for. *** I want to make clear that I cannot verify if the same staff and unsafe practices are occurring at this time (I sincerely hope that it isn't the case), but in all honesty, I would say to go elsewhere. It is not worth taking the chance of watching the suffering of your pet, children and family. IT HAPPENED BEFORE, who's to say that it won't happen AGAIN. I'm not trained in veterinary medicine and can't even tell you what makes a good vet and what doesn't.. My only care and concern is that my dog is in relatively good health and that the veterinary hospital I go to, helps me to maintain the health of the beloved animal that I choose to take into my home.. especially since they cannot speak for themselves. Even till this day, I still try to reason what happened and wonder what would've happened instead if it were a lesser vicious virus or if she were just a little bit bigger and stronger to defend herself from the disease. I don't think my family will ever stop grieving for her... she was truly a part of our family.. In response to Kim: My puppy was purchased from a respectable breeder that was referred to me. If I had purchased the puppy from a pet store, then this review would be DIRECTED to a pet store. ************************************************************************************************************************************************** There is absolutely NO QUESTION as to where my puppy contracted the virus. I confidently say this because my healthy puppy died within a week after our 2nd visit to this vet. Symptoms of Parvovirus begin to show within 3-10 days of infection and death can result within hours of showing symptoms. ************************************************************************************************************************************************** I have wished so much that this never happened to my puppy and my family, but the sad truth is that it did. *** ALL THAT REMAINS IMPORTANT is that this problem does not continue to exist. I'm pleased to see from the other reviews that animals are receiving GOOD CARE from here, because that is all that matters to me. I hope to never see another review like mine for Steinbach Vet Hospital.
Prices are reasonable for a vet, online pharmacy. 24 hour emergency service is a plus too.
Dr King and his staff are always friendly, caring and knowledgeable.
