Brodheadsville had been very good to my furry family, they were affordable and honest. However, once Dr. Seely died it became a completely different story. First, they weren't available too often, which is understandable because they lost their main vet. Then, the replacement took over. Dr. Spizak is a very nice, personable doctor, BUT I feel he doesn't know what he is doing. First of all, he told me my one dog was in heart failure the week before Christmas. The clinic recommended a very expensive cardiologist at Barton heights. I was able to find the same test at another vet, Quakertown for a great savings $1000+ vs $260. I let that one go, everyone makes mistakes, who knows what he may have saw on the xrays--better safe than sorry..whatever. Then, he told me this dog had glaucoma. After watching him heavily struggle to do the pressure test on his eye, I went for a second opinion, no pressure problems, as I suspected. Let me add this was after about an hour's worth of poking and prodding my generally docile 30 lb dog (he doesnt seem too skilled in handling them). Additionally, I had another one of my dogs getting checked regularly for developing lumps. I went years at Brodheadsville being told these lumps didn't need to be removed, by Seely, Spizak, and Sobers. Finally, Spizak recommended 2 out of the 3 of the lumps I was concerned about be removed. The third lump that he said was fine, was on my dog's flank, this lump was inflamed and really was bothering her. I found it odd that the lump was still 'ok' by Spizsk's recommendations. I went for a second and third opinion regarding this lump. The other two vets recommended it be removed, along with an additional 3 lumps (totaling 6). The inflamed lump was biopsied and came back as an aggressive tumor. Another lump that had been on my dog's eyelid for years was also quite troublesome as it had continued to grow year after year overlooked by Brodheadsville. The negligence of this vet has cost my dog her life. I had taken the precautionary steps monitoring the lump and bringing her for regular vet care and he overlooked it. Doing research, I learned the inflammation of the lump is usually a "red flag," but not for him. I'm very saddened by this developed at Brodheadsville. I trusted them when Dr. Seely was in practice and appreciated their prices and honestly. I raved about this practice to anyone who would listen. At this point, I feel like the negligence I've encountered here is a death sentence to your furry loved ones. If you feel you must go to Brodheadsville (tho I think they aren't even taking new clients) make arrangements to see Dr. Sobers in her limited hours. I hope your dog has a better fate than mine.
We have been going to BVC for over a decade. Dr. Seely was the best vet we've ever had and always treated us well. Since his passing, however, we are strongly debating whether we want to continue to bring our pets here. No matter how dire the condition of one of our pets, it takes at least a week to get an appointment. When we inquired further about this issue, we were told that the practice no longer takes emergencies of any kind. Most of BVC's clientele cannot afford to spend $2,000 at a veterinary emergency hospital every time an emergency comes up and yet that is the only option clients of BVC currently have. I suspect that many of the staff were displeased with the changes to the practice as well, since their vet techs and other support staff have been leaving en masse. While I feel that Dr. Sobers and Dr. Gusztaw are good vets, that's largely irrelevant if they refuse to see our pets when they are ill. BVC has essentially become little more than a fixed location shot clinic.
I would recommend this vet to a friend. They are very busy but always take good care of my pets. Their prices are very fair and I will not be going anywhere else.
Mostly good experiences with these guys. They are generally patient with us when we bring our animals in (as we have been doing for years!), and answer questions asked of them in ways a non-vet can understand. They don't manhandle the animals like other vets (*cough* Creature Comforts *cough*) in the area do, and as such, my rather picky cat doesn't panic as much. Dr. Seeley is a little awkward, but as I am also an awkward person, and the animals seem to take well to him, I'm not bothered by this. I assume it's because he's more an animal person than a people person, which is probably not a horrible quality in a vet.
At first I was a little annoyed with the girl who made my appointment. She seemed short and mechanical. But when I got there everyone was so nice. At that point I realized it was due to how busy they are as to why the girl seemed short, They took real good care of my kitten. I got her for free from craigslist for my daughter. (that was a mistake) She came infested with fleas, tape worm etc. they fixed her right up and were very good with her, she got all her shots and spayed and the entire process including taking care of the worms cost me $130.00. I might mention there was a snowstorm scheduled for the day of her appointment and they called me the day before and said I could bring her the night before to stay over, so I wouldn't be out in the weather. Now that's good people!
