Four Springs is a great place to go for vaccinations, regular check-ups and simple tests. Their prices are great. Sure, the front desk lady keeps the phone off the hook and they can be direct - but it's all part of the country charm of this place. On the other hand, I would not bring pets here for even minor surgery. I brought my dog here for a teeth cleaning. When I came back to pick him up, they said they couldn't find a vein for the anesthesia. Rather than call me, they just went ahead and cleaned his teeth without using anesthesia - which I would have definitely not okayed. My dog was traumatized, and his teeth were not very clean.

My family has been using Four Springs for over 30 years for all of our household pets, both dogs and cats. Dr. Wicker has always been straightforward about the health of our animals, and provided excellent care. The costs are extremely reasonable, and we have never had any trouble with any of the services. I will say that the ONE time we had to take our cat to another vet when we were living elsewhere was a nightmare - he reacted badly to the medicine we had to give him, as well as the shots he was given - it took him over a year to "get back to normal". I will never go elsewhere again, and I would recommend this vet to anyone seeking knowledgeable vets for their pets health & well-being.

I took my cat here for declawing and spaying(then again reguarding the spaying). Yes they are cheap. When you call, IF your call is answered(sounds busy but the lady keeps the phone off the hook, seen it done every time Ive been there) the receptionist acts like you calling is a complete inconvience to her(even though your the reason shes still in business). I took my cat in for spaying first. The surgery went well, they didn't give me a cone for her or anything though. I even asked if she will be okay because the stitches were out there in the open for her to pick at. They said no she will be fine. Not even 4 days later my cat was picking at the stitches, ripped open her incisions and it got infected(I could see inside of her and there was a very fowl odor). I took her back there, explained what happened and they said she had a temp. of 103 and gave me medicine. LUCKILY it healed without any noticeable problems. Thinking I could trust them again with her, I got my cat declawed. I went to get her and noticed they didnt even wrap her paws with anything. I of course questioned it and asked if thats okay for her paws to be exposed like that and again they said she'd be fine. DEAD WRONG. a week later, I noticed her paw was twice the size it should be and she was limping and licked it a lot. I went to look at her paw and I could smell an odor(infection). I was soo upset, I called Central Pennsylvania Veterinary Emergency Treatment Services on Martin St in State College, it was over $100 just to bring her in, then whatever she needed would cost more(it ended up being $170 all together). The vet/receptionist/nurses there were FANTASTIC. They cared about her and helped my baby out. They said it was indeed infected, the place I took her should've wrapped her paws so they had to drain BOTH of hear paws and she again had a temperature over 100. They gave me two kinds of medicine to help her and after two weeks, her paws were healed(THANK GOD). 6 months later(now) I noticed something on her paw, I looked at it and one of her claws has GROWN BACK!!!! I check it every day just to see how much it is growing, getting worse, etc. I again noticed the same kind of odor as the other two infections. I have been reading up on what I should do; let it grow? get it checked?....over all i feel so terrible that god has allowed this happen to my cat.I am beyond frustrated with this vet clinic and i wouldnt recommend it to anyone who wants to get any type of surgery done on any of their animals. Pay the money to get the job done correctly, dont risk your pets lives.

This vet clinic has probably the best pricing you can get in this area. We've been using their service for many years and very satisfied with it. It is more like a small family clinic. The environment and the staffs are very friendly. It might seem nothing like the high tech new school animal hospitals but the vets are all very experienced, which is more trustworthy than just the high techs. You won't be recommended tons of fancy blood works or comprehensive health plans and so on. They minimize the unnecessaries and stay with the basic and effective treatments. If you are into all the new school pet cares, this might not be the place for you. But if you have limited budget and value experience more than technologies, I highly recommend this place.

There are pros and cons to this place. The pros are that, above all, this place is the cheapest you're going to get. The services that were done on my cat (fluids IV, getting shots, overall checkup) were about half of the other vets I've been to in the State College and Port Matilda areas, so I really appreciate that. The other pro is that the Dr. seems to be pretty experienced. The cons are that we usually have quite a wait to get seen and the Dr. seems to be pretty rough with the animals, at least much more so than the other vets I've been to. Getting a blood sample was a nightmare. Other vets were always much more gentle with the cat. However, other vets also threw costs out the window, ordering every conceivable test and IV-administered drug they could come up with, topping bills of $100 for pretty much nothing that nature wouldn't have healed. So with those pros and cons considered, I'd take my cat to four springs again in the future.
