We boarded our dog here for three days. Several hours after bringing her home, she began vomiting and excreting blood. She is presently recovering after an expensive trip to the emergency room. Our dog is otherwise healthy. She has boarded at numerous kennels and has eaten many types of dog foods without any issues. Although we have no evidence that our dog's stay at Montgomery Animal Hospital directly caused the health issues, it is hard to separate her stay here with what immediately followed. As an animal hospital, perhaps they were boarding sick pets. Or perhaps the conditions within the kennel (e.g. number of dogs, etc.) caused extreme duress. Either way, this is not a place I would board again, and if a review like this were posted prior to making arrangements, I certainly would not have brought her here.
This is a long overdue "thank you" to MAH. Our history with Dr. Schrader and his staff spans fourteen years, four dogs, multiple visits, and the deaths of three of those dogs. I cannot tell how grateful my family is to have MAH right in the neighborhood. It seems that we tend to use the vet's for acute issues rather than scheduled well visits. Every time we call, we are in need of urgent assistance and MAH always accomodates us even with their busy schedules. Today's visit was a bee sting to the eye and the one prior involved the diagnosis of bloat and subsequent euthanasia of our beloved girl. I can tell you that in each case the care and actions for my dogs (and me) were equally comforting and professional. Dr. Schrader has two great blessings: his skill as veterinarian and his fabulous, fabulous staff. This family is so grateful to MAH.
My animals have never been sick to date, the care they have gotten from M.A.H. seems to be good, however they are extremely expensive and uncaring of their expense. I have tried to get meds from online places that are 50-75% cheaper and from nationally known companies. I have beet met with nothing but resistance from the Staff at the clinic. When looking for a refill from a 6month supply I was told I need to bring my dog back in for another yearly checkup and blood work, despite just having this done 6 months ago. I asked how 2 yearly tests were needed in the same year, and was not given a good answer. the woman on the phone told me I obviously don't love my dog enough to take good care of her. I explained that I am not working, and spending another $500.00 for a yearly test for the second time in a year, is obscene, and uncalled for. I was again told that if I love my dog I will find a way to pay for it. I asked to speak with the doctor about this, he told me "things are expensive if you care about your dog, you will want to find a way to make sure you take care of her" THIS IS OBSCENE !!! I cannot get a script for a preventative heart worm pill, unless I pay 2x in a year for a yearly test. The care that they show for this is to tell me I do not care about my dog, because I am not wasting money on them feeling her stomach, looking in her ears, weighing her and charging me 500 dollars to do that. THEY HAVE LOST ANY BUSINESS AND REFERRALS THEY WOULD HAVE EVER HAD FROM ME.
I rushed my 13 week old Gorden Setter there after a complete boneheaded mishap by me with a golf cart. I had just had my check-up the week before with Dr. Jeff so they actually knew my dog and having just moved to the area the MAH came highly recommended. The care that my dog received and the subsequent aftercare has been outstanding. The staff is genuinely concerened and interested in my dog's recovery and that I find refreshing.
We took our Beagle mutt to Molly's Country Kennels and he came out smelling like 30 dogs/cats and was in general bad behaved for a couple of days after boarding. Also, he was bloated because they didn't follow his feeding schedule. MAH is a much better experience. They were attentive to his feeding schedule, including the amount of dry and wet food per dish. When I picked him up, he smelled fresh and was in great spirits. The staff is much nicer than Molly's too. MAH 4 the win :)
