First things first, I just want to say that you can't base your decision solely off reviews from Google. Every person is going to have a different experience, sadly usually only the people who have bad experiences are the ones to post reviews about it. I personally have had nothing but great experiences with this place. Every time I go there, I don't even need to say anything because they already know my dogs name and what she's there for. I've never been there longer than an hour for anything, even my pups first appointment. I've read the reviews on here about people being angry that the employees push the Wellness Plans. As a first time pup owner, I was so nervous about EVERYTHING when it came to caring for a dog (I was also nervous about how expensive it was going to be!) so I inquired about the wellness plan and came to find out that this is probably the best deal I have ever gotten. I opted to go with it and it covered all of her shots, all of her office visits and even her spay surgery. Each time you go you'll get a print out of what they did that day as well as a receipt with how much you saved that day by going with the wellness plan. I have never felt so comfortable and well taken care of at a Vet and am so happy I didn't go by these reviews and look elsewhere because I would have spent a fortune!!!! I love the fact that they all know my dogs name by heart, and even employees off the clock who are there will stop and ask about how she's doing and they always remember when she was there and what she had done and specific tid bits about her that make the visits so much more personable. I can't say enough great things about this place and would absolutely recommend them to everybody that I know. BUT, like I said, you can't base your decisions solely off of Google reviews, find out for yourself and make your own decision and I'd bet you'd be happy that you did :)
I called Banfield asking how much their doggie dentals were. I was told $255 and I had to make an office visit. I went to the office visit and they said it would be an additional $130 for X-rays. I asked how much it was for a tooth extraction and was told $30-50 a tooth depending on the difficulty. I asked for a print out quote of what the charges would be for the dental and they said they can't give me a print out, but again went over the $255 fee and the $130 for X-rays and $30-50 a tooth. Since this was less than my expensive vet, I made the appointment. My dog needed 4 teeth pulled...so max I was thinking I would pay was $580. They called me while my dog was under anesthesia and said I could either pay $830 or I could sign up for this wellness plan that offers discounts on the services. She said it would only be $573 if I did that. Why not, right because I was expecting to pay $580 and that seemed right to me??? She failed to tell me on the phone that there's an additional $37 a month charge, making the total $1017. Since I didn't want to do that they are sticking me with a $830 bill that includes fees that were NEVER mentioned. For example an $87 dental gel fee, a $17 needle fee, a $42.95 office visit fee on top of a $45 day of care fee, $3.5 waste disposal fee, $54 antibiotics fee, etc. Please watch yourself with this group. They will tell you it's going to be one price when you call, add a little bit more when you come in for the visit and in the end charge a lot more than quoted. They push their pet plans really really hard and lie about what they are going to charge for their services until there's nothing you can do about it. Don't use them!!
Banfield has been nothing but helpful and a partner in the health of our dog. They are attentive, know our dog by name, and personable. No matter where you go, you will wait for an exam room. This isn't news to anyone. Here, our dog is comfortable with their surroundings and is given treatment that would have cost hundreds of more dollars. The Wellness Plan has been a huge savings for us and we would, and have, recommended to many others.
Our experience at the Banfield Hospital in Petsmart on the Carlisle Pike was nothing short of atrocious. We signed up for the Puppy Plan, thinking it was a great deal. Honestly it is, but the savings just don't matter when it comes to the wellness of your pet. We took our puppy in to get his eyes looked at, they were irritated and gunky. This led to all sorts of nonsense that was required for the Puppy Plan. They ended up giving him a Leptospirosis vaccine without our permission, and failed to mention the long list of side effects it might have. Upon arriving home that night the puppy vomited and then continued to do so for the next 12 hours, retching and hacking when he had completely emptied his stomach. In the morning he was shaking violently and continuing to retch. We decided to take him back to Banfield. They told us he was fine, stressed out from the day before and to take him home and give him Benadryl and Pepcid. We tried, but why would you give a dog that is continually vomiting an oral medication? He threw everything we gave him right back up. After an hour of this we decided to go to the vet we had been seeing previously. They were much more expensive, but it turns out you get what you pay for and we'll be sticking with them from now on. The vet we went to see instantly diagnosed the problem, telling us the puppy did indeed have a fever, and that the Leptospirosis vaccine was notorious for bad reactions and that was why he didn't often give it to dogs that didn't necessarily need it. He gave the puppy Cerenia and Dexamethasone injections for nausea and to combat his reaction to the Leptospirosis. The puppy seemed better within the hour. It was like the vet at Banfield had no idea about the Leptospirosis vaccine giving terrible reactions, or worse, that she indeed knew and tried to hide it because they had given the vaccine without our permission. We had approximately $1000 worth of surgery scheduled there but have decided to cancel it all because we simply don't trust them. I'm also very suspicious of their practice of taking a dog into another room if it won't behave. You're a vet, deal with it. It's your job. Our puppy began showing signs of aggression towards any vet after they insisted on taking him into the back. I worry they are too heavy handed, and poorly trained in animal behavior, choosing to strong arm an animal instead of going about it intelligently. All in all our experience was a complete joke. I would not recommend the place to anyone, not for shots, not for basic checkups, nothing. It was incredibly unprofessional all across the board. Run the other directions. There are plenty of good vets in the area. They may cost more, significantly more in some cases, but when it comes to my pets I'll never try to save a buck again
The reason they try to sell the health plan is because they care about you, your wallet, and your pet. Our dog is unfortunately a frequent-flyer due to some chronic health issues and we have saved THOUSANDS on treatments. Dr. Fitz and Dr. Eckert are the best and our dog loves both of them! They have even stayed open an hour later than normal because he needed to be seen urgently. I also know we have been in many Sunday's which would no be an option other places. I am not sure where the negative reviews are coming from, but we have referred two families here and would not go anywhere else.
