My fiancé and I recently took our cat to AVETS due to a urethral obstruction. They did a wonderful job with our cat and kept us informed on his progress both days he was in the hospital. When he was sent home they provided us with printouts of his medical tests, test results, medical procedures, etc. while he was at the hospital. They provided us with a cost breakdown explaining each procedure they completed. They even documented ALL phone calls made between them and my fiancé and I. In addition, they sent us home with a CD containing all medical diagnostic imaging that was completed during his stay. As far as costs, we paid a little over $1500 for our cats 2-day stay at the hospital--which I thought was extremely fair. I read on the internet that the vet cost for this medical problem in cats typically ranges from $750-1500, but in more severe cases costs can be in excess of $3000. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with AVETS service and would go back again if our animal needed urgent care.
Our 17 year old cat Baby had been sick for a little while. She stopped eating and drinking and we knew that she was so very old and that there was little hope. We were nervous about taking her to a vet because we knew deep down that she would not be coming home. To compound the issue my husband was the only one available to take her (I had to work) and he is a bit phobic of dogs. We are new to the Monroeville area so we also didn't know where to take her and it was Christmas eve. The first place I called was Golden Mile Animal Clinic. The woman who answered the phone was very curt and rude to me. Nearly barking at me. No pleasantries at all. Needless to say, I called the next closest place open which avets. The woman who answered the phone was extremely nice and understanding of the situation. She was up front about how much the office visit was going to cost ($124) and told me that we could bring Baby in at any time we wanted. When my husband arrived with Baby he called from the parking lot and explained his dog phobia. They were completely understanding and made sure there were no dogs in the waiting area and ushered him into a private room. Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do for Baby. They gave my husband some time alone with her to say goodbye and he was able to hold her in his lap as she peacefully drifted off. They took care of cremating her for us and gave us a clay paperweight with her name and paw print to remember her by. It was an extremely sad day for our family but the nice people at avets made it a bit easier with their caring and understanding.
This is not a true emergency vet hospital! Do not take your pet there, they are all about the money not the animals. I went to this facility since my vet had scheduled a consultation there for my pet to be seen who had broken its femur earlier that day. The first red flag should have been that the parking lot was empty and I was the only one there. I walk into the facility, and there are 4 women just standing around a computer chatting and didn't acknowledge me or my injured pet. I had to basically sound out and state twice who my vet was and why I was there. Finally, another employee came out and started the paperwork to get me registered. When she wanted me to sign a form that I was to pay $145 for a consultation fee before my pet could be seen, I flipped. I had just paid $400 at my vet for the same things, plus meds and x-rays - not paying another $145 for them to do the same consultation my vet did. I left and thank God I did. I received a recommendation and referral to Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center, which is amazing and have staff and vets who truly care about the animals' well-being. Additionally, PSVEC was packed and other dog parents mentioned to me they traveled 1-2 hours to get there, because of their excellent care. If it is truly an emergency go to PVSEC! I am writing this review so other pet parents know their options!
I took my cat Lync there as an emergency. They took very good care of him, they kept ,me very informed along the way, He had to be hospitalized and they made it very welcoming every time I went to visit. They did everything they could and were extremely friendly. Quality care and a quality staff.
It took me an hour to drive to AVETS, ..I got their at 4 am. I called earlier and told them my problem, they told me to come on out and they would take care of it. Well I got their, and the girl told me that an emergency just came in and the doctor wouldn't be free for 3 hours... First of all their wasn't a car in the parking lot. I think they where giving me the run around. In hoping for the next shift of people to come in. I would have paid any amount of money for them to take care of my Buster. See my dogs problem was that he got poop stuck on his fur and it was blocking other poop to coming out...and its New year Day night and every pet hospital is closed and I thought he could wait till the next day..but .............. AVETS SUCKS!!!!!
