Absolutely terrible experience with this vet. I had left another vet years ago and when my last pet cat, George, became ill with kidney disease we turned to Pittsburgh East Animal hospital. The female vet I dealt with, who has the bed side manner of a loan shark, basically gave us two suggestions: extremely expensive procedures, including a kidney transfer - which we could not afford - or euthanasia. Eventually, after a month of trying to help George we had him put to sleep. A few months later we adopted a kitten from the humane society, Rooney. We recently had Rooney de-clawed and upon taking him home he began to bleed profusely, so bad in fact that I was forced to take him to AVETS. Why did I have to take him to AVETS? Because Pittsburgh East Animal hospital closes at 2pm on Fridays, which was the day I picked him up. After spending $300 with Pittsburgh East Animal hospital I was forced to spend another $300 at AVETS to have Rooney's claws wrapped with bandages and given an antibiotic. There was blood literally all over the bathroom floor, kitchen floor, and on my carpets. I had a long talk with the vet on the phone and she informed me that it couldn't have been that bad and perhaps I should look for another vet if I was unhappy. She was defensive about every issue I brought up, almost like a petulant child. Now, what sort of business treats their customers this way? In the last 12 months I have spent over $1600 at this vet's office. That's more than I do for my own health care! Before taking Rooney to AVETS I called the vet and she said if I left at that exact moment they would quickly see Rooney before they closed. There was no way I could leave right then however, it would have taken me at least 15-20 minutes to get back to the vet, which they were not willing to wait for. So instead I was forced to turn to AVETS. I called the vet again the following day and expressed my unhappiness and asked for some type of credit on my account. I was willing to meet them half way, but instead I was informed today that there was no way they would credit my account. This is one of the worst vets I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. They are incredibly expensive and could not care less about me or my pet. Again, this vet has one of the worst personalities I've ever seen for a doctor and as far as this office is concerned I was nothing more than ATM and that's it. Well, I'm taking her advice and Rooney will definitely be seeing a different vet.

Pittsburgh East Animal Hospital has the best staff and service.My pug Diva was sick for a very long time and other hospitals attributed it to old age but Dr. Jana found she had a severe urinary tract infection and now she is better than she has been in years!!! Thanks Pittsburgh East Animal Hospital, I have my old Diva back!!!

Sounds like Sharkie is an inferior vet from down the street. Dr. Pope and ALL his staff are great and caring professionals. They are treating my very ill Shih tzu, they have told us all our options and which they thought were they best for our pup. Prices were discussed with us but did not influence Dr. Popes medical suggestion since it was not the most costly one. Instead of us bringing our pup back every month Dr. Pope told us what symptoms to watch for an how to treat the symptoms, which saved us money. It must be tough to work with sick animals and I'm glad that Pgh East Animal Hospital Doctors and staff are there for us.

We've been patients of Dr. Pope for about three years and he has helped us through a long stretch of illness. My dog is more comfortable than she had been and I know she is happier and healthier. A friend recommended Dr. Pope when she saw we were getting nowhere with our previous vet and we're grateful she did. The staff was professional and attentive from the first phone call. You can tell they truly care about your pet and enjoy what they do. I have recommended Dr. Pope and Dr. Bender to other friends. I'm sorry I took so long to follow through with my friend's recommendation.
