Overall, the medical care for my dog has been great and given its close proximity to where I live, I'll likely come here in the event of an emergency. However, think twice before making this your local vet. 1. It's expensive, like much else at Penn. For routine healthcare (vaccines, checkups, neutering, ect), it's not worth the cost. I paid $93 for a rabies vaccine recently - $20 for the vaccine and $73 for pretty much everything else 2. Get ready for a long wait. 3. I've had issues with their records dept - either misreporting information to PAWS when I was applying to adopt another dog or failing to send me the visit summary after an appointment. All in all, I'd trust them to take care of my pets but there are better long-term options out there for your family vet practice.

I wanted to thank everyone at UOP Veterinary Hospital for saving my lifeless little girl life. A special thank you to Dr. Tackas for everything he did for her. without him I would have lost my precious baby girl Dolce. today she is alive and doing great. thank you again and God bless you.

This is a modern day Bender's Tavern for dogs. They misdiagnosed my dog loaded him up on medication for a condition he didn't have and failed to warn me about the potential hazards of the drugs which led to his untimely and painful death. This while charging me 3 times the estimate and showing zero compassion for the loss of my family member. The Benders have been reincarnated and they work at 3800 Spruce st. Enter this Hell hole at your own risk.

Penn vet saved my dog from major surgery. I recently moved to the poconos, and took my dog to a new pocono vet for a routine visit. The vet noticed that my dog had broken the tip off of one of the big upper teeth in the back. She said the pith was exposed, and that my dog would need major surgery to extract the broken tooth. Since those teeth are deeply rooted in the bones, she would be in pain for weeks, and would lose a lot of function. I decided to drive 3 hours to penn vet for a second opinion. I was hoping that their team of doggie dentists would be able to save the tooth with a root canal. They told me the pith wasn't even exposed! She didn't need surgery at all!! Thank you penn vet for putting my dog's health and well being over making money! I am happy to drive 3 hours to take my dog to you!

I have gone to Matthew J Ryan for three pets and each time they do what other hospitals have not done which is fully explain the possible problems, the tests required to confirm, the risks and the costs. I went to Garden State for 20 years and it has been progressively declined. Their lack of protocol has killed a couple of my pets. Last year they recommended chemotherapy just days after a chemotherapy which resulted in a bleed for the second time. This overload caused a fatal bleed - a horrible death. Also they did not recommend dialysis for a cat in acute renal failure but treated for chronic which caused a buildup of fluids around the heart. Once I took to to Matthew J Ryan, and found out that dialysis could have reversed the renal failure , it was too late and my cat died shortly after receiving dialysis. But the doctors here were absolutely fantastic and I cannot blame them. It is costly but it was my choice to choose that path and that is the cost of veterinary care. Make sure that wherever you that your pet that the doctor clearly explains all your options, even if they cannot provide the service. I think too often people make decisions based on too little knowledge and based on assumptions. If you don't feel right about what you hear or don't hear - get another opinion quickly somewhere else like a university hospital.
