Smaller shelter than WPHS but just as wonderful. Their cats, bunnies and dogs are loved everyday by volunteers. They were wonderful to me when I was looking for a bunny.

My roommate adopted a kitten from ARL last fall. He's amazing, the joy of our lives and of everyone he comes in contact with. I think it's likely the ARL did a great job taking care of him and he had a great foster family as well. I'm sure it's partly just his personality too, but he clearly came to us bold, fearless, and affectionate towards humans - perfect cat. He had some minor health issues that they informed her of and I think she's been back for some successful low-cost vet clinic visits as well. I went with my roommate once to look at cats at the ARL and there were lots of friendly cats there, and lots of caretakers and volunteers taking care of them. They seemed well treated and happy, and so were we.

Adoption requirements were reasonable and process was easy.Foster parent even brought the cat to the most convenient offsite adoption location[water works petco] at the most convenient time for me.Adoption counselor was friendly and helpful. I was looking for a companion for an energetic twelve year old female cat who I adopted from a family member when they moved to a nursing home. The cat had proven to enjoy other cats in the past but would be easily overwhelmed by cats with dominant and/or territorial behavior.I decided to look for a playful male cat with a submissive temperament who enjoyed enjoyed the company of other cats. I found all my criteria met in a three year old named Deacon who had been captured as a sickly feral cat in East Liberty on a frigid December day.Deacon was delivered perfect health his behavior has proven to be exactly as described by the web bio and foster parent. The transition period was undramatic and the two of them are now like ''peas and carrots''.I am happy that Deacon was rescued from the streets and he is the perfect play/snuggle mate for me and my little princess. I'd like to emphasize to readers the advantages of adopting a fully grown cat from ARL because the temperament is fully developed and volunteers can help you find the perfect individual to fit with your [human and animal]family.

I was in search of a dog to be a companion for my other dogs and my family. The dog acted fine at the meet and greet but as soon as we got it home the dog would not stop humping one of our other dogs. I was hoping the dogs would work it out by morning but the adopted dog would not stop trying to hump my dog. I had to separate the dogs at least 400-500 times in less then 24 hours. Humping my dog was the only thing on his mind. When I brought the adopted dog back to the Animal Rescue League at opening time the following morning they said the adoption fee is non refundable. I guess I'm lucky they didn't charge me a surrender fee as well. I will never go to or recommend the facility to anyone ever again.
