We have been using Plains Animal Hospital for over 10 years now. We have a few doctors there. Dr. Doug Ayers had been our primary doctor along with Dr. Danielle Ambrose and Dr. Kristen Edwards. The care that we have received has been exceptional. We are on our fourth dog they have treated everything from cancer to simple hot spots. We have had surgeries and other procedures along with acupuncture and all were done well. They are very professional and the staff has been nothing but kind and understanding in every situation that we have had. We have always been able to get a quick appointment and the pricing has been very fair.

Our 17 year old cat has been on antibiotics for two weeks, he is losing 14% of his body weight per week and is down to 5.5 lbs. We have explained that we wish only to keep him comfortable at this point because he is clearly suffering. The Dr. ran tests and informed my husband that he has hyperthyroid. After almost $400.00 home he came with medications that I found out this morning will take weeks to work. My husband & I could not continue to watch him suffer and had him euthanized today. When I tried to find out why it wasn’t explained to my husband yesterday how long the treatment would take, since the cat is clearly starving to death and clearly suffering and can’t afford to lose weight for another two weeks while we wait for the meds to kick in I was told that they are in the business of treating animals not killing them. I asked them to cover the cost of the euthanasia since we would have had him euthanized yesterday had we been given all of the information then. They refused. I asked to speak with the vet, they never called. When we went in this afternoon to have Buddy put to sleep, they came in the room to talk about what happened yesterday. I asked repeatedly for them to leave us to say goodbye to our pet, pointing out that this was a hard enough time for us and that they could have this discussion later. They wouldn’t stop. I begged, I yelled, nothing worked. They had to have their conversation then and try to prove their point. They took what was already a very difficult situation and made it so very much harder. I will not go back there under any circumstances. They cared not at all for my cat’s suffering, only that they could talk us into one more test to make another buck. They cared not one bit for the heartbreak that we felt saying goodbye to our family pet, it was more important that they have their way. Stay away, stay very far away!

The doctors and staff were exceptionally professional and compassionate when my dog became critically ill with unexplained liver failure. They worked together as a team to diagnose and treat her. The doctors called every day to check on her condition and adjust her treatment as needed. Because of Dr Ayres and the staff at PAH, I'm happy to say my dog is again happy and healthy and even enjoys her now occasional visits to her friends at PAH.

They have done a great job with my dog so far. It may have taken a little extra time and an extra call, but when we couldn't afford a visit and the meds for a chronic problem, they worked with us to make sure my puppy got his antibiotics. Definitely someplace to consider if you don't already have a vet, they will work with you. One caveat, avoid the 24/7 emergency hospital at any cost!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET THERE! They are unprofessional,rude,ignorant and all they care about is taking your money. I will never go back there. They made a HUGE mistake on my dogs medications and they refused to admit it! Dont go there! The doctors don't really know much of anything. They just want to xray, test and do everything under the sun to take your money. DRIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE IT"S WORTH IT! July 10, 2013
