The Doctors & Staff at Hickory are the best! They have been there for all of my family's furry family members over the years. It is truly one stop shopping. A 24-ER, that also does yearly check-ups/vaccines. I have no problem paying a little more for the piece of mind that my vet's office is ALWAYS open. Whether it was Christmas day when Louie decided to drink some anti freeze, or being able to see Dr. Brown on a Sunday afternoon (and not have to take a day off from my work) for a regular office visit.....Hickory has been there for my family. Thank You
Good Staff. Nice facilities. I can not afford to go there. My dog had a raised spot on his skin so they took a biopsy and gave us an ointment to apply 2x a day. We were in and out in less than a 1/2 hour and charged us $376.00! This is not the first time we've have serious sticker shock. We will be moving on to another Vet.
Don't bring your pet here if you have a choice. I had an emergency situation with my pet and brought it here on a Sunday night. They gave me a price range between $3,200 and $5,800 for emergency surgery. They gave me a contract with these figures, but in the fine print it said that the final cost could be 25% higher, which the vet never mentioned. To make a long story short, they kept finding excuses to keep the pet in for more than a week, doing additional procedures without my consent. When I finally went to meet with the doctor about the cost I was hit with a $8,000 bill. It turns out that they expected payment in full before releasing my pet. They are now basically holding my pet for ransom. They told me that they would release it if I applied for a credit card on site to pay them, but then refused to release the pet when I complied. I never even received a final invoice, but they tried to make me sign an agreement to pay the balance of the $8,000, which was in dispute. When I refused to pay they reneged on their promise to release my pet, despite paying $5,000 towards the procedures. The entire week I asked to speak to the head doctor that was the decision maker, but got the run around. This vet is completely unethical and conducts business in a predatory manner. Stay far away from Hickory Veterinary Hospital!
I've taken all 3 of my dogs to Hickory over the past few years for a variety of medical issues. However, after my most recent experience at Hickory with my beloved dog, I'll never go back there. I do not have any faith in the medical care we received from the physicians (we saw 3 different doctors and an intern in a 5-day period). Furthermore, I feel that in some cases the bedside manner they showed us as owners was bordering on rude. I eventually transferred my dog to the University of Pennsylvania, where I received highly informative and compassionate care - things that I simply did not experience from some of Hickory's physicians. I will say that the vet technicians at Hickory were across-the-board very nice, friendly, and helpful - they really seemed to have passion for the animals, and they helped me spend time with my critically ill dog in the last days of his life - I will never forget the compassion they showed to us. There are many, many other well-respected veterinary facilities in the Greater Philadelphia area - I highly, highly recommend you take your furry family members to one of those.
VERY EXPENSIVE! (but the staff is quite nice) The staff was nice but I felt a little like I was being sold a car rather than getting my dog treated. My dog wasn't eating which was terrifying for us since he has devoured every morsel of food within reach for 6 years. Within hours we were at Hickory in hopes of finding out what could be wrong. Now, we understand that this is not an exact science but only later in the week after a lot of investigating did we find out that this is a rather common symptom of nausia and not something that would require multiple x-rays, or overnight care which was what the vet kept pushing. (after only 3-4 hours of not eating) What we discovered is that you should really consider these options on day 3 of a dog not eating, not hour 3. This is the part that made me feel like I was being sold rather than being helped. The vet spent more time outlining the services and costs they would like to provide than they did evaluating my dog. Some things to consider though: A medical professional cannot take stabs at the problem like, "I think," or "It's probably this..." They can only rely on solid facts. However, as a result I left with a very large bill and not at all comforted as to why my dog wasn't eating. 24/7 Service should not be cheap, it does cost a lot to keep a facility open 24/7. When I called on Sunday and was able to get my dog some attention, I was relieved to know a professinal was available. In summary, I would return to Hickory Vet but only in an emergency situation when my regular vet is not available.
