This is an amazing group of hard-working and knowledgeable professionals. I have been there many times with three of my dogs and all have been treated well. Right before Thanksgiving, my beloved lab was run over by a truck (in my driveway). The driver drove off without doing anything to make sure the dog was OK. By the time I realized what had happened, Reggie could hardly breathe. With the help of my regular vet (Emmaus Animal Hospital - also amazing people), we got Reggie up to Valley Central. They saved his life. I cannot thank them enough for what they have done.
All they car about is making money & they do not put the best interest of the dog at heart. Who tells you to do major surgery on a 13 year old Lab that has cancer? Had to go here, holiday & was the only place open to do ultrasound. My vet called ahead & told them I was coming & needed an ultrasound ASAP because of symptoms my dog was having. Got there at 2 and sat for an hour. Finally went into room, sat 30 min waiting for ultrasound tech, waited another hour for the doc who told me I would have to wait 2-3 hours for ultrasound & my dogs situation was very grave & wanted to do bloodwork, fluid therapy while wating. Told him I was sent for Ultrasound under my vets recommendation but he talked me into blood work while I waited. Had a my 4 yr old with me who had not eaten 5 hours & asked if I could walk down street to get her food & he said I would have to sign in my dog as a patient & pay for admission fees and then they would have to do fluid therapy. My dog finally went for ultrasound, after being there 4 hours, so I ran out to get my 4 yr old food. Told me she had many masses on her spleen, abdomen & liver & suggested surgery & chemo right away, she's 13 yrs old so I requested hollistic treatment which he told me is not available. He suggested chemo, I told him no so then he suggested I put her to sleep there & then. My family wanted her home to say good bye & go to her vet if that was the situation. He told me she might pass on the way home & would never live more then a week. Went to my vet next morning, she gave me hollistic meds and said she could have a good/happy 4 months left. With hollistic meds she's up & walking again, eating & sleeping comfortably. My vet said the surgery would have been the worst thing to do considering her age and the amount of masses found it would not be worth the money spent & not worth it to put a 13 year old dog through.
I have nothing but good things to say about Valley Central Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center- Dr. Ron Hodges and his team are EXCEPTIONAL! Dr. Ron and his establishment is not out to take your money as someone wrote- in fact I found quite the opposite! Dr. Ron Hodges is a VERY straight forward and upfront Veterinarian! He is very compassionate and TRULY has the animal's best interest in mind. He is knowledgeable and takes the time to explain to you what is going on with your pet...not rush you out the door.. I loved this place so much-I left my regular vet and took my pet here for all care. They are a comprehensive center that can get you answers quickly- they explain the charges and fees BEFORE they incur so that you can make an informed decision. The center is totally organized and professional- very impressed with how things worked so systematically. I am very happy to have had my pet under Dr. Hodges and Valley Central's care...If you want excellent care as well as excellent customer service please have the confidence to take you pet to Valley Central.
I see an awful lot of negative reviews, many about costs. Let's not forget this is an Emergency Room for pets. Yes, it costs money to operate this facility. I have been bringing my cats and dogs here for years. And yes, sometimes they don't come home with me. On those and all other occasions I have been met with much compassion, love and understanding for my pets and myself. They provide care which your usual vet can not do (eye surgery, oxygen therapy, heart treatments etc.) So yes it may cost a lot but our pets are worth it. And there just may be some times when nothing more can be done for them than what you had hoped for. I recommend this facility.
My experience with Valley Central over the years has been nothing but professional, courteous and straightforward. Remember that they offer EMERGENCY services which requires them to be staffed 24/7, as well as maintain more costly equipment and medications. Their prices are consistent with this model, just like a human ER, but unlike human medicine, there are no subsidies for the less fortunate. Their referral practice is also highly regarded and their specialists truly know and care for their patients, as evident by their advanced diagnostic approaches and thorough communication with the regular veterinarian. Any hospital (human or animal) that is in the business of handling complicated, emotional, and/or life-threatening situations is going to receive backlash. Negative outcomes, death and extreme financial burden are always eminent possibilities when advanced medical treatment is warranted. However, from the thousands of clients and patients that Valley Central has helped, and will continue to assist, we are eternally grateful.
