I had to go through the worst experience today with Greenwich Bay animal hospital they are definitly not looking out for or care about the well being of their patients. Our shitzou had become severely ill over the past couple of days and it has been getting worse and worse, it started with diharea, then over the next day turned into vomitting along with pooping out blood. She came very lethargic and was trying to hide from us. By this morning she had spent the last night and today pooping blood. She refused to eat anything or drink anything and if she tried would throw it right back up. We made an appointment for noon at Greenwich Bay animal hospital and brought her in. I dont feel like going into all of the details at this time, and I can if you would like to know, but in a short version, the doctor suggested all kinds of test, and hospitalization and that we do this and that etc, keep in mind snickers is 14 years old. The doctor told us also that none of this had to do with her old age. The entire time the nurse was standing behind him acting kind of strange and shaking her head and looking at us as he was talking as if she had something she wanted to tell us. The doctor gave us time to think things over and the nurse came in and told us honestly from her experience she was really old, and her body was shutting down, and from her experience it was time for her to move on and make her peace. We decided that was the route we were going to go and my father went out and waited in the waiting room. While he was out there, that nurse came over and said, "I am sorry for your loss and I apologize that I will not be able to follow up and see how the family is doing in a week or two." She then grabbed her stuff and left. After the procedure was over my fiancee, my mother and I were out in the main waiting room and we over heard the doctor and other staff talking in the other room. They said how that nurse was not a team player and was not working for the benifit of the hospital and they told her multiple times during different times that what she was doing was unnacceptable. This had me outraged as we came to them looking for advice for our sick dog only to find out that the vetrinarian did not actually care about the well being of our dog or how our dog felt, all he cared about was running as many test as possible and making as much as possible off us as he could. The only person that actually cared about how our dog felt was the nurse who in turn was fired for providing the care that any normal person is looking for when they go to the vet. I wanted to pass this along as this is very bad practice and I was astounded at how things went given our circumstances. Snickers is now in a better place and we will have to move on and learn from the experience.
In reference to the 12/2/09 review; I was witness to this incident. The animal hospital was only doing their best to insure that the owners made an informed decision by giving them all options including euthanasia, as any good veterinarian should! No one was fired because of this incident.
