Over many years I have used may Vets., but none like Dr.Jay Jones. One sentence sums it up: "He love what He does" and cares beyond anything I've ever encountered. He will go to the ARK and check on very ill animals all during the night. I know this for a fact. He save one of mine that we were sure we would loose. He is absolutely the best. Several years ago, my elderly canary fell ill. I called several vet offices in town, all of whom were befuddled. What to do with a sick canary? "We don't do birds," I heard over and over. "Maybe the animal emergency room in Augusta will take him...." The thought of packaging up a delicate, frightened, sick canary and driving him to Augusta and back. Wow. Then I remembered hearing years back that Dr. Jones, of the Animal Ark, had pet parrots. I called his office and -- despite that they had a full schedule -- within the hour, Dr. Jones and his competent assistants were going over my bird with a fine-toothed comb. (A pleasant departure from many of the vets who, just like so many people-doctors in Aiken, think it's well enough to schedule an appt. for next month, when you call today with an urgent medical situation that really isn't suited for emergency room care). Amazingly, Dr. Jones had the tools (such tiny instruments, some of them improvised, as needed), expertise and knowledge to perform such delicate procedures on that little songbird. Gratitude is such a tiny word for what I felt after that visit, to see such suffering relieved in my bird. I promised myself to write a thank you note to Dr Jones and his staff, but I never did. Earlier this year, my mother's schnauzer had a "hot spot" on his tail. Not rocket science. Any vet should recognize this condition, but not so for a vet at the new & improved veterinarian facility in Aiken -- an institution that our family has patronized since the early 1960s, back when Dr. McLean was the James Herriot of Aiken. To make a long story short, I again called on Dr. Jones' office and, again, they fit us into their busy schedule and -- within the hour -- Dr. Jones (along with the same able assistants who'd cared for my canary several years earlier) were going over that schnauzer, as if he were most important patient on the docket. Dr. Jones is what you call an "old-school" doctor. He obviously cares very much about his work and his patients, and not only has decades of experience to draw from, but is also (as was apparent in the dialogue during these visits) well-versed in the newest research and treatments. No doctor is flawless, but I've been to enough, myself, to know the difference between a dedicated doctor vs. a doctor with an expensive lifestyle to support; the difference between humility and arrogance; the difference between genuinely caring and not. We are blessed to have at least two fine veterinarians in Aiken. Dr. Jones is one of them.

Love the Ark Animal Hospital. Dr. Jones and his staff have been very good to our animals and I completely trust them with the canine members of our family.
