I first used Shandonwood Animal Clinic in 2011 and my cat saw Dr. Otis. Great experience that time, which is what brought me back to this clinic last week for a serious issue with one of my cats. However, I came in the door and was barely greeted by a guy receptionist (Andy). He didn't make eye contact and was inattentive while I explained my cat's issue, which I was visibly upset about. Instead, he clicked around on the computer even though he had not asked for any information from me yet. About that time, another girl came up and took over, so I dropped my cat off at 9 AM and was told she would be seen immediately as they were not busy at all. They didn't get any information/history from me about my cat's problem, but only wrote down that she was having rectal bleeding. They said someone should call me soon to get more information about the situation. So more than an hour passes and I still had not heard anything, so I called for an update. Andy, the same guy from earlier, picks up the phone. I ask for an update about my cat, and all he says is that she hasn't been seen. He was uninformative and he quickly got off the phone with me. I wait another 2 hours and call again, as I had not heard from them still. Again, Andy picks up and is again uninformative and quickly hangs up with me. So my husband calls them after me, and gets the same response from Andy. He agreed with me that Andy was not helpful, inattentive to the customer, and seemed bored with our concerns for our cat who was promised to be seen at 9 AM, and yet was still waiting almost 4 hours later! My cat was finally seen by Dr. Harari who was absolutely wonderful - I give her my highest recommendation in the concern and treatment for my cat! However, Andy had consistently terrible customer service skills and the place seemed disorganized. When I picked up my cat, there were no discharge instructions, they did not know she had meds to go home with, nor did they know what doctor she saw. Although the medical treatment there with the veterinarians is excellent, their organization and customer service is lacking with certain staff members. I will be taking all of my animals to another clinic from now on. UPDATE: I have since taken my animals to another clinic, but needed their records faxed over. I called Shandonwood and asked to fax over my pets' information to another clinic. A few days later when we went to the new clinic, no records had been faxed from Shandonwood. This further reflects their lack of customer service - figures.
I took my 19-yr old cat there first for care, then to be euthanized. Dr. Atkinson is outstanding. His care for and knowledege about pets is clear from the minute he walks in the room, and he is also concerned for his clients. He was patient both explaining my cat's condition and while I put him to sleep, and he conducted the process in a very respectful and unhurried way. He answered questions directly and honestly, and left all decisions up to me without rushing or being pushy. It's clear that his first priorities are for the pets, their owners, and his work, and that payment is further down the line. 19 years is a long time and I got really attached to my cat, and my memory of putting him to sleep is a very nice one after the way Dr. Atkinson handled it. His facilities are modern, clean, and bright, the rooms are open, and his receptionists and techs are very nice. I'll take my future pets there and will recommend his hospital to others.
My sheltie and collie were under the care of Dr.s Razor and Atkinson while we lived in Columbia. The love that these folks have for animals showed in every aspect of our visits- from routine examinations, when health problems developed over time, and even at the end of my pets' lives. My pets were in the best hands! I would heartily recommend this practice to anyone who needs a vet for the four-legged members of their family.
I have taken my dog here for over 9 years. Dr. Atkinson is one of the best vets in town and has loyal customers. My dog ate a pecan and it got stuck in her intestines. After not seeing anything in two exrays they did exploratory surgery and were able to save her. They worked quickly and were able to find the problem. I will not take my dog anywhere else.
I really love my vet here. She is detail oriented and seems to love animals. I have only had good experiences. However, they are expensive. My puppy was very sick when I first brought him here and now he is very healthy, but I did pay quite a lot for this wonderful service.
