We brought our puppy here last night after his leg got stuck under a chair. We were worried it was broken but by the time the vet saw him he was able to walk practically normally. She told us to just soak it in epsom salt and completely waived the $90 exam fee for night time emergencies. I was amazed by how nice and friendly everyone was here. Hopefully he won't need an animal hospital again but if he does, this is where he will go for sure.
Rude staff. They were going to admit my cat overnight because she was dehydrated and throwing up for 3 days repeatedly, but once they found I couldn't pay them with anything but a post dated check for the same week because I got paid on Friday (it was a Monday night) they made me call my mom and friends for 1/3 of the bill up front. Then after a friend agreed to pay the money to get her admitted, they decided that they would not keep her overnight and they turned us away with nothing but a script for amoxicillan. Next day, my cat went into ketosis and was unresponsive and almost died. Oh, and now I owe my friend $170 for NOTHING. These people do not care about animals at all. They care about money and that's it. Thank goodness I went somewhere else. They actually did an examination and found that she had a piece of dental floss or string under her tongue which probably led all the way down her digestive track. They are keeping her overnight and doing a barium xray to find out if it will be able to pass or if surgery will be involved. She didn't need an antibiotic in the first place, first and foremost she needed people who cared and an IV full of fluid and medication to stop the stomach spasms. The people at the Animal Emergency Clinic are rude and don't know wtf they are doing and just want money. I was so insulted by their behavior and phrases like "this is not a charity". I DIDN'T ASK FOR IT TO BE FREE, I ASKED IF I COULD POST DATE A CHECK FOR FRIDAY. I DON'T THINK THE CAT WILL LIVE UNTIL I GET PAID AND SHE NEEDS IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY HELP.....DUH! They didn't care. Oh and besides a wrong diagnosis, they double charged my friend's debit card which caused her bank to overdraft and checks to bounce with multiple fees. THEY HAD BETTER PAY HER FOR THIS. CROOKS! They didn't want to help me or my furbaby. I will never go there again. I wouldn't send my worst enemy there to treat their pets in an emergency.
I went to the Emergency Clinic with my 70lb dog after my regular vet was closed. My dog was struggling with an infection and quickly deteriorated to the point by the time I got there, he was no longer breathing (a 3 min car ride from my apt to the hospital). Although the staff reacted quickly and helped me get him out of my car, the resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. With this being said, it was only a few minutes before the Doctor came in and said that he was without oxygen for too long. Though that may be the case, I was not back there to see him being resuscitated. They were insistent on me going into the room to fill out paperwork and reminded me that resuscitation can be expensive. The staff were very business oriented and offered little comfort, even though I was there by myself. As a heathcare worker, I know the paying of medical bills signs my paycheck. But as a healthcare worker, I also know the smallest gesture of compassion and good bedside manner can go such a long way.
I took my 4 month old kitten here and received very prompt and courteous service. The office staff were very sweet (and gave me coffee) and proficient, they even processed my insurance paperwork for me. The vet tech was very understanding of my concerns and very gentle with my shy kitten. When the tests results showed that she had an infection, the doctor explained to me how to administer her medication and helped me out to the front desk. All told I was only there an hour, which I think is considerable service since there were more urgent emergencies that came in the door as well. Everyone was very kind and knowledgeable. I love Dr. Grist as well, but when it's an emergency you can't wait a day to go see your regular vet! I am glad my kitten is safe and I can't thank the people at Upstate Vet enough for their dedication and help.
Expensive and slow. But its the only option for after hours veterinary care. The vet seemed nice and was thorough.
