I love love love Angel Oak Animal Hospital!!!! My Yorkie, Graci just had her teeth cleaned and some pulled, I was very scared for her to have the procedure as she is 13 years old but both Tanya and Dr Ben convinced me it was in her best interest health wise. It has been 14 days now and my little Graci is running around like she is a puppy again and eating everything in site! I have to say I am so glad my neighbors told me about Angel Oak, it is a vey pleasant and cute place to bring your pets, the staff is very friendly and you will feel like you have known them for years. I will never trust anyone else to ever take care of my Graci :) Thank You Angel Oak Vet!
I found this vet to be more concerned about money than quality of care. Their prices are stupid expensive; $49 for an office visit & $191 for blood work, which is more expensive than it is for a human. All told yesterday it was $320 for a visit, blood work, an antibiotic shot and 4 single dose syringes of pain meds. My older cat was unable to urinate. Perfectly healthy up until yesterday. The vet prescribed an antibiotic shot that lasts for two weeks instead of daily oral meds; Convenia. I have since learned Convenia is for skin infections and not the kidney/liver issues they supposedly had concerns about. (Note the precautions below). Convenia also has a laundry list of adverse side effects and because it wasn't a single dose if she has reactions to it - I can't stop giving it to her - it's now in her system. They also prescribed "something for discomfort" Buprenex. I have also since learned Buprenex is an opiate that is 30 times more powerful than morphine and is used when someone is in severe pain or trauma, isn't approved by the FDA for use on animals, is highly addictive, shouldn't be used on humans or animals with liver or kidney concerns AND they never told me any of the side effects of either drug. The vet has since called with the results and her blood screen shows exactly what I knew before – she’s perfectly healthy. They have no idea why she was unable to urinate yesterday. Maybe a bladder infection. When I inquired about why she was prescribed the opiate that’s 30 times more powerful than morphine as she’s high as a kite, the vet giggled and made a joke (?!?), stumbled for her words and then said something to the effect this was the only drug she could prescribe if they thought there was an issue with her kidneys…keeping in mind this drug is NOT to be prescribed if there’s an issue with liver or kidneys. Before I left the vet, they made sure to give me two beer cozies (?!?!), a magnet, info on dental hygiene printed on expensive stock, packaged in a cute little bag that held the four single dose syringes of pain meds. All these items are fluff with costs that are then passed down to the consumer – that’s why this place is so expensive. I mean you gotta admit it’s beyond laughable my vet game me beer cozies. I don't want a cozie and a magnet so I can market your business. I want quality care and not being forced into a waste of money blood panel or mind numbing opiates. As I was leaving the vet wanted to know if I needed any Trifexis for my dog. I've tried it in the past and my dog has thrown up after giving it - I don't know one person who's been able to give this to their dog without them throwing it up. The vet here wrote a recent blog post on their website "Trifexis, Not likely (key word) the cause of pet deaths." The blog essentially says how great the company who makes Trifexis is and slams any pet owner who thinks Trifexis is causing pet deaths...keeping in mind that an investigative reporter Jim Strickland filed a freedom of information request with the Food and Drug Administration and got the agency's data on Trifexis. It showed that since Trifexis hit the market, every 36 hours, a pet owner reported that Trifexis killed their dog. That's 700 pets dead - more than the recent Chinese jerky treat pet deaths - yet this vet is singing Trifexis praises and wanted to sell it to me yesterday. That is NOT "excellent patient care and customer service" as they have since emailed me that they provide. That's incompetence and neglect. CONVENIA is indicated for the treatment of skin infections (wounds and abscesses) in cats caused by susceptible strains of Pasteurella multocida PRECAUTIONS: Prescribing antibacterial drugs in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection is unlikely to provide benefit to treated animals and may increase the risk of the development of drug-resistant animal pathogens.
With 3 dogs and 2 cats (3 of which are senior citizens), we need a vet who is a proactive partner in their wellness and health. The amazing team at Angel Oak are tops in their profession and have helped us with the furry members of our family for more than 10 years. We've worked with other vets here and in other areas, but we've never had the benefit of such thorough, detailed, knowledgeable and personalized service. Dr. G, Tanya and the whole team always go the extra mile and truly care about their patients and their clients. Highly recommended!
If you're looking for a great small animal vet hospital in the area, try Angel Oak! I had an old cranky female cat that was super defensive. In the past, vets would sedate her before they even touched her...it would take her 2 weeks to recover from going to the vet. Angel Oak handled Ashley gently without sedating her...they even pulled blood without an issue! I now take my two kittens there...all the staff is friendly and SUPER helpful! I live on Johns Island now but if I ever move, I'll continue taking my cats to Angel Oak.
Everyone at Angel Oak is absolutely amazing! We had an issue with our two dogs eating some ant killer and we rushed them to Angel Oak and everyone there took great care of them and saved their lives! We are forever indebted and HIGHLY recommend Angel Oak Animal Hospital for your four legged family members!! Thanks for everything you do - we look forward to a continued relationship over the coming years. All the Best, The Johnston family
