Saturday a week ago, our cocker spaniel become very ill. We called the vet who had seen him with regular visits over the past 5 years, but they were unable to care for him. My husband drove our dog to Cleveland Park East and Dr Finley took him right in. they rapidly diagnosed that Winston was in acute kidney failure. All weekend he was given intensive IV and antibiotic therapy, and by Monday had begun to recover. We are eternally grateful for the loving competent care he received, and especially thankful for the frequent phone calls that did so much to reassure us that he was in the best of hands. As of today, his one week follow-up labs indicate that both his kidneys and liver have recovered as a result--a testimony to the swift interventions he received. Much thanks also to Dr Traber, who has wonderfully continued his care, and to Trichia and Vicki who showered him with love despite his "I feel better now" growls. My husband and I most highly recommend this Cleveland Park East and its staff!!
I had a mixed experience here back in June. My good points - The assistants were really nice when they brought my dog to me after her stay and I like that there were two, they seem well staffed, one escorting her and one with her belongings. They talked to me about what and how much she ate and that made me feel really good about how she was treated with the staff in the actual kennel and she looked great from grooming. I also like that the kennels each have their own access outside. But for the rest of my story... When I called about boarding I spoke with a pleasant guy about the specifics of my trip and when I would need reservations and about my dog, asked about prices, etc. He was really sweet and seemed knowledgeable, so that gave me a good impression about them. I set up my reservation, gave the gentleman all of my information, had my dog's vaccines info (the usual Rabies, DH2PP and KCV) sent from her vet and went about planning the rest of my trip. I actually had a good feeling about this place... I had my husband take her in the morning of, just thinking it would be a quick trip to drop her off while I was getting the house locked up for us to go out of town. He called me - they want to do a fecal test for boarding. They said nothing about this initially, nor is it something I have ever heard of being required anywhere else. I have several problems with this. One, it's an additional $23, I've already budgeted the full cost of her stay there and this is unexpected. Two, they said nothing on the phone when I set up the reservation and now it's being thrown in my husbands lap and he's just couriering. Three, while it might seem to be a nice precautionary measure, but it's unnecessary because she is Sentinel, an inside dog, our only dog, is tested yearly, on and on - all of this I presented to over the on the phone. All she could tell me is "It's policy, it's policy". A policy I wsn't informed of and if I had been, I could have made arrangements elsewhere. Finally, after speaking to the manager, who spoke with a doctor who said he would still require it, just not charge me. Fine, OK, go ahead, I mean what am I to do at this point? My dog and husband are already there, I'm basically stuck. So... I called the on the morning before picking her up to check on her and get my final bill amount. Still, with the fecal charge discounted, it's more than expected. Why? Because they gave my dog an additional vaccine! I was MAD. This is my dog, you can't just go around injecting people's animals without their knowledge! They said she need a Flu vaccine? Well she already had one at her vet but I didn't ask them to send her full medical history because they hadn't said it was a required vaccine for boarding, on the phone nor at drop off. I was so mad, I just didn't say anything and went and picked her up. It broke my heart to think I had dropped her off for the week, thinking she would have a good time and be taken care of and she probably felt sick and stressed. Oh and in the end it would have been cheaper for me just to drive 30 miles back to her old vet and board her there.
Just a quick thank you to Dr. Finley,Kim Sharratta,Tasha Shaver and the caring staff at Cleveland Park East Animal Hospital. I called in at 8;45 and at 9;00 I was giving information on a pup that I had feared the worst (parvo)...all results came back negative! Thank you again for the peace of mind, Rainy Dey and Ken P.S We'll be back in for all her shots
These guys took amazing care of my 2 year old Angora cat. Sundae is like a child to me, so when she ate a large amount of string, and became very sick, I was distraught that I could lose my best buddy. The attendants helped me rationalize through the problem and think positively, not the least bit annoyed with me (even when I came in this morning at 7:30 sharp to see my baby girl). Dr. Finley helped me really understand what she was facing during surgery and it definitely shows that he has a heart for the animal first and foremost. I have found my vet for life!
