I brought my cat to Midland Pet Emergency Center in October 2014 for a suspected urinary tract blockage. After about six hours the vet, Dr. Saathoff, diagnosed my male cat with a UTI. He provided us with two medications; antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. The medication was totally ineffective. Five days later when nothing had changed, we took our cat to our regular vet who told us that Saathoff should have advised us to change the cat's diet to prescription urinary tract health food was more important. Dr. Saathoff had to refer to a text book several times while treating our cat and appeared disheveled and unprofessional. I will never use this facility again. In fact, our regular vet recommended the same and provided us with his cell phone number in case of future emergencies.
Excellent care for your pet and for owners who have to make the ultimate decision. Very sympathetic at our time of loss for our beloved pet (family member) I cannot say enough about how everyone there was so comforting. They even contacted us days later to offer their sympathy. This place is a blessing to our community to be open after normal hours and weekends for emergencys.
Staff is VERY unprofessional. I took my dog there because she was not breathing. The vet comes out literally 10 seconds later and says she's gone. I am crying my eyes out and she asks what I want to do with the body and explains the options. I told her I didn't know right now, so I kept crying. The male clerk comes to the window while I'm crying and says "Sir, what would you like for us to do with your pet"? I'm in the middle of grieving for my beloved dog, who was like a child to me, and that was the last thing I wanted to think about. I went outside, finished crying, composed myself, and approached him and told him I'd like the body back. He says "Ok, I'll put her in a box." WHAT??? I said, Hell no you're not gonna put her in a box! I want her body the way I came in with it. The vet came to the door and told me sarcastically that "it's a casket, but it's a cardboard box." I called and spoke to someone by the name of Shawna, a supervisor of some sort, and she did nothing but argue with me and tell me that everyone appreciates the box. She then said "Well, you called in earlier in the night and we told you to come in." WTF?? I'm not complaining that you all killed my dog, I'm complaining that the staff was unprofessional. She told me that the vet working that night was upset because of my behavior and thought that it was uncalled for. The vet also thought that I was arguing with her because I asked her why she wasn't doing cpr. These people are totally clueless here and have no reason working with the public in an emergency type environment. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. They are not the only Emergency pet clinic in Maryville/Alcoa. Also, Whatever emergency clinic you choose, drive by there so you know where they are located. I followed my gps there and it took me to a shopping center a little down and across the street. The male clerk gave awful directions on how to get there and was not very helpful at all when I called and told him I couldn't find it. It could save you precious minutes in an emergency.
I have taken 4 of our dogs there at different times and have only good things to say about them. On one visit, our dog needed stitches and they had to sedate him to do it. Maybe I got some special courtesy because I work in a people ER. They let me stay with my dog while the sedative started working so I could hold him as he fell asleep. I am sorry to read that others have had bad experiences there. My several visits have been top notch. We love all the vets at Chilhowie, but have no reservations using Midland after hours.
This is the absolute worst place you could take your pet. Very unprofessional. Misdiagnosed my dog[thought my dog was actually going to die, when it was actually fairly minor], took bad xrays, made me pay for xrays that did not identify the actual problem. Called and spoke with Tonay Lawson and she actually hung up on me. Worst experience I have had in my life, I truly do not know how they can run this business with their ethics. I never leave reviews, but I wish someone would have wrote this before I took my pet here.
