My cat had a stroke. This couldn't be determined by this clinic after keeping my cat for 6 or 7 hours. I had to propose it to the veterinarian, and then my regular vet confirmed my suspicions the next day he was open. When I asked what had been done, they said she had just been kept in a cage with a bell on her neck "in case something happened." I asked if she had been given any food or water during this time, AND THEY SAID NO. Kept her in a cage, hoping that someone wouldn't hear a bell ring, couldn't come up with a proper diagnosis, AND didn't let her eat or drink?!? PLUS, they asked me to stay in an exam room for over an hour that REEKED of urine. (It took two washes to get the smell out of my clothes.) I had to ask to change rooms just because I started getting a sore throat from the stench. The doctor was nice, but didn't seem too knowledgeable. The desk staff was stand-offish. Bad experience all the way around. I hope I don't need emergency vet services again, but if I do, I'll travel the extra distance to go to the other one at 12th Avenue. I think this place cares more about their designer waiting room and décor than pets and their owners.
I brought in our cat on a Sunday morning after a possible injury. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the exam she received, as well as the fairness of the charges. Really, she's a member of the family, and I would have paid just about anything to make sure she was ok, so I was braced and ready to be gouged at check-out time. But I paid about $150, including take-home pain meds, so I thought that wasn't bad at all. And overall, what really stood out was the compassion of the staff. The doctor came out to update me after the first round of exams, and she brought my kitty out to see me, so that we'd both be reassured everything was ok, before she took her back again to finish up. That struck me as very thoughtful. As they don't provide regular veterinary services, I hope I never need their assistance again, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them if I did.
On Thursday November 20 I went in with a live dog and came out with a dead dog. After 2 surgeries ...each time they said all was fine...I had to put down my dog 3 days later. One doctor said they all decided not to charge me for second surgery and then the doctor who did one of the surgeries (maybe both) said they discounted the second surgery. Since I was numb after this I did not ask questions...Just paid the $3500.00 bill and left and never will I go back. I would never recommend them. The quote was for approximately $1800 -$2400 and the final bill was $3500. Why did they discount the second surgery? Was it because they botched the first one? Guess I will never know as 2 doctors were saying different things. Stay away. Nell Agee
I brought my sick & broken 15 yr. old Jack Russell Terrier in on a Sunday afternoon. He had awakened that morning unable to walk and incontinent. I had a bad experience 16 years ago with another "emergency vet" in town and was absolutely afraid to go to another. In a nutshell, what turned out to be an agonizing decision was made as easy as possible by the kind & compassionate vet and techs at Nashville Veterinary Specialists. The compassion shown to us while we had to make the heartbreaking decision to send our old boy "home" was so appreciated. I could write several paragraphs on how kindly we were treated but suffice to say; do not hesitate to take your pets to this 24 hour emergency vet OR use them as your vet of choice. They are absolutely on the ball and your pet WILL be treated with the same love that you give. Thanks to the staff there on 8/31/14 for helping us through a heartbreaking time.
We took our 13 year old basset hound to NVS with what we thought was a respiratory infection, but was unfortunately terminal, untreatable cancer. Dr Page Redden was wonderful, both to us and to our beloved dog. The level of kindness and caring we received from the entire staff, at what was a very difficult and sad time, was outstanding. Dr, Redden sat on the floor with us and talked to our dog as if he were an old friend, instead of just another patient as he took his final breath. I will never forget the tear she shed for him or how gentle she was with his grieving family. My most sincere thanks and the highest recommendation for this hospital. The Smiths
