We took our dog to this vet for the first time when my little terrier got sick over the weekend after Christmas. The care our little dog received was extraordinary. We are very impressed with the follow up calls about his condition on Monday after our visit that Sunday. The vet who examined him - Travis Nichols - was extremely knowledgeable and caring. He did a blood test and administered fluids directly to my little dog and then sent us home with antibiotics and instructions about how to care for him overnight. I am thrilled to say - although there was a remote possibility our "baby" had an inflamed pancreas - he was on the mend the very next day. This is the best vet care I have found in the Hill Country. We are very grateful to Dr. Nichols and the Herbst Veterinary Clinic. Our visit to the clinic was a great holiday present for these two worried "parents."
I don't know where to begin or to use the right words to describe Herbst Veterinary Hospital. All of the doctors and staff are professional, caring, thoughtful, understanding and really, really love all animals. I have been a client of Herbst for over 15 years and in all of those years, they have taken excellent care of all of our dogs and all of our grand-dogs as well. They always went above and beyond for our dogs and helped me and my husband out tremendously as my husband went through cancer treatments in Houston by providing excellent boarding and helping us out in all hours of the night. When I needed them, they were always there.. Our dogs have been boarded too many times to count, and every time they were returned to us in perfect condition. My yellow lab has had several difficult surgeries and all were done with great care and love for her. One of the surgeries called for her to be hospitalized at Herbst so that the staff and doctors could monitor her recovery. Never once in all of the treatments, surgeries, boarding that my two labs received during our time with Herbst was I disappointed with their care. I would recommend Herbst to anyone who is looking for a practice that truly cares for all animals and treats their patients and clients with great respect. Herbst always thoroughly communicated to me about the health issues with my labs giving me a complete scenario of what was taking place and presenting all possible solutions. The diagnoses that Herbst made on my two labs were always accurate and correct. I would never hesitate bringing any of my dogs to Herbst and I recommend them highly to anyone looking for the perfect vet clinic.
Simply stated: Dr. Jones is the best. He has been my choice to care for our furry friends for over 12 years. In celebration of a new pup or saying good bye to a beloved friend, Seth brings a compassion and joy to his profession that is a rare commodity. Hat's off to the supportive staff at the clinic as well. Grateful to have found Dr. Jones.
They talked me into using Trifexis heartworm medication on my three dogs. The only side affect they told me about was the doss possibly becoming legarthic and something else that was trivial, maybe the diarrhea. The medication did not have warnings in the literature or on the box telling what this stuff can really do, especially to older dogs. All three became very ill and what seemed to be depressed. We thought it was because of the move we had made to the area and the death of a family member. My oldest got the worst: diarrhea, vomiting, legarthic to the point of not wanting to get up at all, not able to jump, staring into space as if in trance for minutes at a time, incontinence, not eating (not even treats), unable to walk for 20 ft without having to stop. We thought he was at the end of his life and we took him in to have him put to sleep. The doctor who prescribed the Trifexis was told WHY were putting our dog down. He did not say anything about the possibility that the things we were seeing could be because of the medication he recommended and that maybe if we took him off it he would return to himself again. Instead he gave our dog the shot that took him away from us. Weeks later my other two were still not acting right and I suddenly had the thought it might be the Trifexis. After looking it up I just about threw up. All the reasons we put our precious Gunther to sleep for were possible side affects to the Trifexis. I immediately took our other two off the Trifexis, gave them a holistic liver and kidney supplement, and within a month they started returning to their old selves. I notified the clinic what happened and got no apology, no acknowledgement that they may have overlooked what could have been the cause of Gunther's symptoms nor did they emit one iota of compassion for the fact that I may have put my dog to sleep for the wrong reasons. My thought is they just wanted to sell me the most expensive item they had for heartworms to improve their bottom line. I have moved my dogs to another clinic. NOTE: The folks who manufacture Trifexis also showed no remorse or compassion for the loss of my wonderful dog due to what appears to be the side affects of their drug.
I would not take my pets anywere else. The staff and the doctors are friendly, the care, and they are open 24hrs. When my dog Scotch got sick the care provided was excallent. I knew he was in the best hands!
