This was many years ago, but I've never gotten over it. My precious Cocker Spaniel, Sidney, who was perfectly healthy died as the direct result of this vet's poor attention & treatment & negligence. There was a breakout of the parvo infection. He was at the groomer, where a dog had symptoms, so my groomer called me to pick him up. I took him straight to HP Animal Hosp. The vet said he couldn't vaccinate him the day of exposure, and told me to bring him back that Friday. I called him to see if Thursday would be ok rather than Friday and he said it was fine. I took Sidney back home after his shot and went to work. When I came home after work he was dying. I rushed to the vet but he died in the car. BOTH VETS AT THAT CLINIC (I think their names were Hopkins and Harrelson or something) INSISTED IT WAS A COINCIDENCE THAT HE HAD THE SHOT A DAY EARLIER THAN THEY HAD ORIGINALLY SAID & THEY WERE "CONFIDENT" THE PARVO VACCINE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS DEATH. Not only have I had to live with Sidney's unexplained death and the horror it brought me over the years, but with the guilt of taking him in a day earlier, because I TRUSTED the vets.I've posed these circumstances over the years to at least half a dozen vets, all of whom are sure it was no "coincidence." I hope this helps you decide what's best for your adoring pet. I wish I had a do-over. Still heartsick over my Sidney
All-around GREAT experience! The front desk staff were wonderful and extremely helpful! The technicians were kind and caring toward my precious puppy and the doctors were pleasant to talk to and thoroughly explained things in words I could understand! I highly recommend this clinic!
I highly recommend this animal hospital! I feel safe and secure with all of their decisions. Not to mention, pre-surgey they helped me obtain X-rays from another vet so I wouldn't be charged for a 2nd set (very trustworth) and post-surgery they followed-up to check on my cat's recovery! I recently adopted a cat from the local shelter. After a few weeks he developed a limp, which turned out to be a developmental bone problem. We got quotes from several surgeons in the area and Highland Park Animal Hospital was the most affordable AND had the most experienced surgeon (who has performed this operation several times.) The surgeon (Dr. van der Meer) is the absolute nicest man who genuinely cares for the animals and takes the time to talk to you on the phone and provide first-hand knowledge of the sitaution. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming (always a plus when you're leaving your animals with them...) June, 2010
I boarded my golden retriever at Canine Country Club for 25 days, while I traveled to the Middle East. When I returned, the vet at HPAC told me he had a skin infection and gave me antibiotics and a steroid cream. After 10 days of no improvement, I took him to Banfield for a second opinion. They diagnosed him with Giardia and Wingworm. The misdiagnosis and steroid cream amplified the wingworm problem. Banfield said it was the worst case of wingworm they had ever seen. We planned to fly with our dog next week on a 4-week vacation, but I can't get a health clearance for him. The kennels won't take him because he's contagious. Looks like I have to cancel my family vacation or put him down.
