Unfortunately this is one of the few stores for parrots in Houston so I'm forced to go there for some items. The service is absolutely horrible. The horrid, old woman that works there could not be less helpful. Unless you're buying high dollar items they have no interest in you. The store is dirty, overpriced and dark. I recommend going to A Parrot's Cove.

I've recently adopted a parrot and the staff have been more than helpful with getting the little booger settled into her new home. They've always answered my questions and took time to show me this and that. The selection of feed and accessories is great as well. I appreciate that it is a family business and were there other bird stores near the inner loop, I would continue to support this place.

I have lived in Houston for over 30 years and have visited this pet store over the course of at least the last 25 years. Things have not changed significantly. The co-owner's wife (I assume) has always been very short and curt with visitors. It always seems as though you, the client, are wasting her valuable time. I usually ask to speak with the husband instead. He isn't much better. He smirks alot, has a sarcastic disposition, and projects the opinion, whether right or wrong, that you must be an uninformed consumer and probably stupid when it comes to birds. Personally, I have had macaws for the past 12 years. I have a PhD in Science and have been a college professor for 33 years. I know how to do research and always try to be an informed consumer. Recently, I have started raising baby macaws and have established breeding pairs of Blue and Gold, Military and Greenwing Macaws. I was in the market for a female Greenwing Macaw and noticed on their website that one female, in particular, that I had been looking at for the last six months was still listed. I telephoned to inquire about this Greenwing and received a rather terse reply from the male co-owner. He remembered me and reminded me that I had been in the store several months ago asking about this bird and that I was calling back now, several months later. He told me that he decided to take the bird off the market and pair her up with a hybrid (basically, a mut bird) Miligold Macaw that looked awful due to habitual and nervous plucking of his feathers (A miligold is a cross betwen a military and blue and gold macaw). But, if it didn't work, I could possible acquire her in the Spring. My first thoughts were this: This is a pet store that sells birds and the thought that they would breed anything (hybrid and purebred) is ludicrious. To purposely breed a hybrid with a pure species is something that most, if not all, bird breeders frown upon. Pure species are disappearing from the wild due to illegal exportation. Domestic breeding of pure species is the only process, in many cases, that is keeping several species of magnificent macaws from near extinction. Pure breeding is encouraged and hybrids are discouraged. Where is this man's integrity and accountability? Second, I felt as if the bird was being taken off the website on that particular day in response to my telephone call. My impression, right or wrong, was that I was somewhat of an annoyance due to the fact that I had visited the store back in June and then telephoned again several months later. Why would the bird be listed that morning on the website as being for sale at $1795 and then taken off the market after I spoke with the owner? Maybe he thought that I should have purchased the bird back in June. The last comment I want to make is this: It seems to me that there are a lot of neurotic birds in this store. Many of the birds look awful. They are habitual pluckers and a number of them have no feathers on their bodies due to excessive and nervous plucking. There was also a Military Macaw for sale (FOR SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!) that had no feet. The bird had lost its feet due to frostbite. How dare they try to sell a bird with no feet!!!!!!!!!!! This poor animal should be put up for adoption with someone who will care for it and tend to its unique needs. This store is overpriced and certainly not among the cleanest pet shops in the city. They are trying to sell birds with plucked feathers at a premium price when they should be ashamed of the condition of these animals. I want to remind consumers that you become enablers to businesses like this by frequenting their establishment. If you, as a consumer, would responsibly take your business elsewhere then establishments like this would go out of business. This place, in my opinion, needs to go out of business. The owners are rude and sarcastic, many of the birds look awful and need attention, and the entire store needs a good solid cleaning and facelift. Please join me and others in not brining your business here in the future.

I have been going to Adventures in Birds for about 4 years. You can not find a more knowledgable place in Houston! Last December I got a Jubilee Macaw and have been in love since! He was and is a very healthy and well-socialized bird. We just love Orson and couldn't imagine not having him. Over the past year, I have also gotten some Lady Gouldian Finches from here and they have been fantastic as well. I have purchased many toys and food products as well; they always have a great selection! Thank you, Adventures in Birds, for the great additions to our family!
