We had a WONDERFUL experience here. Our dog Tanz was seemingly very ill so we went over right away. The doctor took time to really look at Tanz and see what was wrong with him. We were seen promptly and didn't have to wait long at all to be seen. All the staff was friendly and very accommodating. We would highly recommend River Oaks Animal Hospital.

I have had dogs for at least 10 years, and we've seen a good handful of vets. This has been the only bad experience, and easily the worst vet experience I've had to date. I took my dog in for his regular check-up and to, at most, get him his mandatory rabies vaccine. He has a history of allergic reactions to this vaccine, however, and requires an antihistamine to control his reaction. I was half-way through my interview with the vet (giving her his history, including that of his allergies and an explanation that I did not want to overly-vaccinate him). She went back to help oversee the administration of one of the tests, and when she came back, she reported that he had been given three vaccines, including the rabies vaccine. They tried charging me for the additional vaccines, which I expressly said I didn't want. The moment I challenged the bill, the receptionist, Paige, became snippy and less attentive. I was given the explanation that bordatella is requried for my dog to be in the clinic. This was NEVER disclosed to me before. After some time, a charge somewhat close to the amount that the additional vaccines cost was "comped." No apology was given. Within 30 minutes, my dog became increasingly itchy, and even vomited. Luckily, this was caught before the clinic closed. I was able to get him back to the clinic, but it took the staff 10-15 mintues before they saw him. Even though this reaction was due to staff's miscommunication and/or negligence, they decided it was fine to charge me for the additional treatment as well. They could have killed my dog, but NO ONE offered any apology. I wouldn't say the vet didn't care, but I've seen vets more caring than this. I've met vets less willing to nickle and dime you for every little thing. I've met vets who at least apologize because something didn't go just right, even when it's not their fault. I was less than impressed with this place, and would advise against visiting here unless you have no other place to go.

I have had River Oaks Animal Hospital take care of both of my dogs since they were born and I couldn't have asked for a more caring staff and knowledgable team of doctors.

I've never taken alot of time to write reviews like this, but for this team of professionals - it's worth it. I've had dogs all my life, lived different places and used many different veterinary specialists. By far, Nancy and Karen and the crew at ROAH are the best and most empathetic, compassionate group ever. I've had dogs with so many issues, it's a wonder I didn't switch to cats . . . . . . but they have held my hand through every single issue. I would travel back to Houston just to treat my pets here.
