I give them 5 stars because they are open 24 hours and are our go to emergency clinic if our vet is closed. It is nice to know a place like this is open 24/7 in case something happens to your fur babies. We have used them twice for things and have found they are very up front about price and the procedures they will do on your animal.
I took my dog in on 6/22/14 because I was under the faint suspicion that he had been hit by a car. Backstory: My dog loves to bolt out the door at any change he gets and managed to slip out and run about 4 blocks and cross a major street- I tried catching him by running behind him barefoot during 5:30 rush hour traffic and lost sight of him. I was fortunate to receive a call from someone who had found him. Upon picking him up, I noticed small scrapes/bloody spots around his body, I didn't see him get hit but I had enough evidence to to assume that he may have been hit by a car. I checked him out at home and felt for any broken bones- none. Everything seemed to be in place and he wasn't bleeding from the mouth or nose so I decided he was ok. He was breathing fine and was acting normal. A few hours later, it was time for bed and I couldn't shake the thought of taking him in for a professional evaluation. So I decided to take him in around 12 midnight as an added precaution. I arrived and they quickly took him in for an evaluation. The vet called us in to the room about 10 minutes later. Dr. Garcia said the dog was fine and that he was going to be discharged. It was then that my husband inquired about how the exam was done. Dr. Garcia almost seemed offended that he asked what kind of exam was done. She said "fine. I'll do it in front of you.". She felt around for broken bones, checked his pupils for evenness, and checked his breathing/heart rhythms with a stethoscope. It took 5 minutes top. - It was literally the same thing I did at home with the exception of her using a stethoscope. She had no professionalism to her and was very awkward with us. The exam charge was $95! Are you kidding me? A 5-10 minute basic exam was $95??? It should have been $50 tops and thats being generous. I understand that they're a 24 hour emergency clinic but they're gauging people's eyes out at those prices. Upon checkout, I made a comment to the front desk attendant (Jackie or Jacqueline- don't remember her name that well) and said "$95 is a lot to charge for a basic exam." She sassily replied, "well, we are actually one of the cheaper ones." Never again will I be bringing my pets here. The staff was rude and unprofessional. If you truly want good service with a smile- head on over to Bayou City Vet in the Heights area and Dr. Kyle and Dr. Flores will explain things to you and they're always more than happy to answer questions- in fact they encourage that pet owners ask more questions!
V.E.R.G.I. is an excellent emergency animal hospital! My dog Tyson was viciously attacked by another dog and his entire left side of his mouth was detached from his jaw. After many visits and a few surgeries later, Tyson's face was back to normal again. He doesn't even have a scar! I would recommend them to all my friends and family! PLUS.. They are cheaper than Gulf Coast. Inexpensive and great service.. you can't get much better than that!
My dog(storm) had an allergic reaction to one of the shots he got from his vet(Banfield - of note they are not associated with banfield or the insurance they offer) around 8pm his face had swollen up so bad you couldn't see his eyes. Got over there, they treated him, and we were out in about 2 hours. Everything was very pleasant. I don't know about any of the other treatments but for an allergic reaction I would defiantly say they are A+.
Took in my dog in a panic state. She had a piece of a toy blocking her intestines. The staff was very professional and recommended exactly what I would have expected as a course of action. (I spent 4 years working my way through college in a vet clinic and have a degree in Animal Science) THE PROBLEM IS THIS - there estimate for the exploratory surgery for over $3000 dollars. Thankfully we were able to come up with a different plan that got her through the night and I was able to take her to my vet the next day. My vet recommended the SAME course of action. Their price for the exact same exploratory surgery was $400 dollars!!!! I understand that it is an emergency clinic and prices are going to be higher but 8Xs what the cost actually is in highway robbery. They are praying on peoples emotions and absolutely stealing them blind. Very sad considering the oath a veterinary takes to protect and provide for the wellness of animals.
