I called Dr. Urso regarding an emergency with one of my calves in the early morning, approximately 3:30am. I asked him if he handled cows considering I had called several large animal clinics in my area and they told me they didn't treat cows/calves and explained to him the situation (abandoned calf, severely dehydrated regardless of attempts to bottle feed, and unable to get him to nurse on the cow). Instead of being helpful he cursed at me and told me that he "sure as hell wasn't going to handle it now". I told him that was fine, that I would call around to see who I could find. He advised me that I "better not going calling around waking people up for something that could wait until the morning." Then proceeded to tell me I should get him to nurse on the cow (already told him I couldn't get him to), he told me that I should milk a cow and feed it to the calf (I already told him I was bottle feeding it with colostrum), he told me I should bottle feed it (... third time I told him I was bottle feeding it), and finally he told me it needed antibiotics. I've never had a vet prescribe antibiotics over the phone... He reiterated it could wait until morning. I told him that I would make sure not to call him at "4 in the morning" again, and I wouldn't be calling him at 8 in the morning either because he was an arrogant prick. Unfortunately [like I knew, considering I had been calling vets/emergency vets for over an hour at this point] it couldn't wait. During my argument with Dr. Urso the calf had already died. Summary: He is a very rude individual and will never get any of my business. Dr. Urso if you don't want to be called during an emergency then don't list your number as an emergency contact. Common sense.
