As a result of my recent experience (I took my dog in for a broken tooth), I felt compelled to write a review about Dr. Dennis Thielen and the staff at Ware Road Animal Hospital. Overall this is the best veterinary clinic I have ever visited, hands down. 1) Dr. Thielen recommends what’s best for your pet, not what he can to make money off your circumstance (Unlike the “emergency pet hospitals and giant pet stores” both located in the Trenton and 10th street area). Just for the record I received quotes after several vet appointments to these “emergency pet hospitals and giant pet stores” and they wanted to charge me $600 and $500 respectively for a tooth extraction, which leads me to #2… 2) Ware Road Animal Hospital has the most reasonable prices I’ve ever paid for my dog. The tooth extraction cost a fraction of the prices from point #1, yet I received more vet-to-patient attention from a very experienced and knowledgeable veterinarian, which leads me to #3…. 3) Dr. Thielen diagnoses your pet AND EDUCATES YOU on the injury your pet might have encountered (in this case a broken tooth). He informed me of the risks involved with either waiting longer to treat my dog or extracting the tooth immediately. He explained the risks with anesthesia and my dog, which leads me to my final point… 4) My dog is a whippet, and traditionally the sighthound breeds have problems undergoing anesthesia for things like surgeries etc. I was aware of this already before I purchased my dog but the fact that Dr. Thielen knew about the potential risks of anesthesia impressed me. I had been to a “giant pet store” in a previous visit and brought up the issue of anesthesia with whippets and the vet looked at me like he heard it for the first time, which obviously worried me. This was not the case at all with Dr. Thielen. He knew that something as simple as a tooth extraction needing anesthesia could lead to serious consequences if not treated correctly. I’m sorry for the long review but I feel that all too often, the public (myself included) does not take the time to show their gratitude whenever they encounter exceptional service and for that, everyone suffers. I sincerely hope this helps not only other pet owners but also Ware Road Animal Hospital.
