Cross Timbers is where I've taken all of my dogs. Several years ago I had two labs and one of my labs had constant ear infections. We always took them to Cross Timbers for treatment and were pleased with the care he received. I have found that this clinic is great as long as you have the money up front to pay! They will not help you in the event of an emergency. Years later, I have a new puppy that likes to eat rocks. He had surgery, which we paid for in full, and then 4 weeks later he ate another. Our only option to pay the $1600 surgery was to pay half down and the rest in 45 days. Really? I just paid you $1600 four weeks ago and that's the best you can do? Or our other option was "You can take him to the Emergency Hospital where they have CareCredit but it's triple the price". We ended up taking our baby to Durant, OK where the surgery cost us $369. The vet was waiting on him when we got there and got him right in. He was much more about customer service and taking care of the animals than getting the money! It's very disappointing as this vet is right around the corner from my house and have a lot of dogs I foster for a rescue that need vet care at times.
Very rude and difficult staff to work with. We were in the process of moving and needed a month supply of heart worms medicine to get us through until we could be seen by a new Vet. They wanted me to come in for an appt and have our dog tested until they would give us a month supply. This was totally unnecessary since our dog had been seen by them regularly and there had not been a lapse in her heart worm medicine!
Not sure why all the negative reviews - we took our dog there for years. Great service and pleasant staff. When she passed they were compassionate and extremely helpful. We have a new dog now and will be going back.
Take heed -- the negative reviews are justified. Prior to my most recent visit, I had been a long-standing customer of Cross Timbers for probably six years or so. I have always felt like they did a pretty good job, and the vets were kind and caring individuals. My last visit involved interaction with a vet I had never seen before. Rude is putting in mildly, this woman was downright insulting, and dressed me down (or attempted to). I finally had enough of her bullying and gave it right back. There are too many options for vets in McKinney to put up with being treated so horribly. I will NEVER go back!
I'm also surprised by some of these negative reviews. I started going to Cross Timbers about a year and a half ago. I have two cats and was looking for a vet that ran an organized office. I'd been to vets that were a mad house where the resident pets were allowed to climb all over my cat's crates, stressing them out unnecessarily. The only resident pet at Cross Timbers is a retired seeing eye dog that is very well behaved and stays behind the counter. The staff there is wonderful; they are accommodating and friendly. They also don't seem to think I have a bottomless wallet; I've never felt like they were recommending things that I my cats didn't need just to make money. The vets listen to what I have to say and understand that I know my animal; if I have a feeling that I know what it is that's bothering my cat, they take that into account. I've never just felt dismissed as I have with other vets. The vet techs there are also top of the line: my cats go there regularly for nail trimmings and sanitary shaves and I even recently had them do a full lion cut on one of my cats. They always do a good job and don't nick or otherwise injure my cats, and the techs report that the cats are easy to handle, which says a lot about the techs themselves. I've spent a lot of time in this vet due to my cat's frequent grooming needs and having to go there to buy Rx medicine, and every customer always seems happy. I've never heard anyone talking to the techs like they had an unpleasant experience. If you live in the area and want a good, welcoming place to take your pet, go see the folks at Cross Timbers. Also, side note: the hours listed on Google are wrong. Cross Timbers is indeed open on Sundays from 12 to 5. I know because nearly all of my appointments are weekend appointments.
